There's a lot to like about the guy, but there are a few points I just can't get past in terms of throwing him my support.
Anyone who says, "I would do essentially what the president's doing in Iraq," well, they're not going to rate high on my list since President Bush and his crew have absolutely mismanaged the whole Iraq affair. But what bothers me most is the man will say something like that -- And maybe I need to hear his definition of 'do essentially the same' -- and then follow that with this quote: "We went in there too light, wrong rules of engagement, wrong strategy, placed too much emphasis on just holding things in place while we built up the Iraqi army, took longer than we figured."
Like most (all?) politicians, he talks out of both sides of his mouth.
Check how this wishy-washy nature affected his voting record. In March 1999, he votes no on air strikes in Kosovo. Two months later, he votes yes to allow any and all necessary force in Kosovo.
Like I said, there are some things about him that I like, issues such as I believe if he had the only vote we'd have a much simpler federal tax structure, and I like that he opposes ANY amnesty on the immigration. But overall, he's a little too conservative for my tastes.
