OT: 35,000 more troops to Iraq
OK, this move should finally stablize the situation.
When does this insanity stop? What will it take for the US to admit complete defeat in Iraq?
WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has notified more than 35,000 Army soldiers to be prepared to deploy to Iraq beginning this fall, a move that would allow commanders to maintain the ongoing buildup of troops through the end of the year if needed.

SS,
The end is very near. The White House is making one last attempt here. If it doesn't work, they'll have no choice but to pull out by this time next year if not sooner in my opinion. I wonder what kind of odds I could get on the vast majority of U.S. Troops being pulled out by May 1 2008......

The U.S. got it handed to them pretty badly.....the problem right now is that there is no public indignation over this. We need to start seeing some more public protests....

My son got the dreaded dept of defence letter Saturday telling him to report to Ft Jackson in SC before June 3rd, and to be ready to deploy to Iraq for 15 months.
Im proud of my kid, but he has been out of the army now 1.5 years, and he is getting called up because of his reserve satus. He has already been to Iraq for a year and we all thought he was done.
I really feel bad for him, he is in college fulltime, and working fulltime. There isnt a f@#$ing thing I can say to him this time thats going to help before he ships out.
I will go out to TX and help pack him up, and deliver him to SC, thats about all I can do to help him with this.

NO CHOICE..? Are you shi*tin' me..? Not only do they have a choice but I got news for you... it's the public that has no choice... This administartion has made it very clear that they will do as they damn well please... If the public gets out of hand they will wish they hadn't... Furthermore, the addition in troops is either to prepare for IRAN or to replace all ones that have been falling like files... Anyone who believes the offical number reported dead please PM me because I have a bridge to sell you... I would say since 03' they average losing 7-10 a day based on reports I read and friends I have talked to that have been there for service... I have been told there are many attacks EVERYDAY (which the news does admit).. Now either they are terrible marksmen or there is more to it then what's being reported...
As for the gentlemen who's son is going to IRAQ all I can say is there are always choices... Sitting in jail is better then going because I have a feeling you want to see your son alive and not in one of those coffins with those flags on them... I hope he makes it back for your sake because I hate to see a parent lose their child but you're playing russian relette here.. GOOD LUCK!! My friend on his last day there was driving through a bad sand storm and it threw the timing off of the rebels who detanated the IDE which missed him by 5 FT. They were a hair too early and I predicted he wouldn't make it back alive... I was 5 Ft. away from being right... He says Jail is better too...

BuddyBear, no he doesnt want to go this time. The 1st time he wanted to go, but then he was regular army, and he was with the same guys for 3 years.
This time he is getting thrown in with a no one he knows, so Im sure that makes it alot tougher. He is a tough kid, with a good attitude, so I have no doubt he will do what is asked of him.

SW, I've learned now after 5 years watching this unfold that we as Americans do not have the stomach for war. Now that everything is televised, we just can't take it. That is why there is no choice. Osama Bin Laden was right: Americans can't take casualties and it is crystal clear.
I'll just say this: we need some leaders with backbone and vision and an actual plan for dealing with the biggest threat of my generation. If it hadn't been for Winston Churchill and FDR, we might very well all be speaking German right now instead of English. We need Winston Churchill to be reincarnated to show us what real leadership is. This world needs it in the most desperate way!!!!!!!!!!!

Couldn't agree with you more, JJ.
Hat's off to them. You can't say enough about the true sacrifice they are making.

I watch these videos of live battles in Iraq, it is a death trap and when these guys finish their duty they should get anything the fuk they want but most when they come home end up with shabby lives as they risked their lives while regular lazy americans got ahead of them with education and take the jobs. The mother fukkin scumbags gutless firemen that steal money and sit on their lazy asses all day get treated like gold in this country and soldiers are taking for granted.
Soldiers are the only heroes and the only guys/gals with no fear of death.

AP story today on VP Dick Cheney:
BAGHDAD - Vice President Dick Cheney said Wednesday that Iraq remains a dangerous place, a point underscored by a thunderous explosion that rattled windows in the U.S. Embassy where he spent most of the day.
Wow. Great analysis.
Likely followed by something like this from Cheney: "Get me outta here."
