RageWizard, as a die-hard conservative, I can NOT defend what the republicans did when Bill Frist attached the UIGEA legislation to the back of the security port bill knowing Bush had no choice but to sign it. It was this very thing that caused me to abstain from voting for the first time (since I turned 18) during the 2006 mid-terms. I am PROUD to say I have NOT contributed one single dollar to the Republican National Committee since that day even though I've received about 100 pieces of mail from them asking me to do so.

Willie, most conservatives really don't have a problem with first trimester abortions as its mostly the religious right-wing nut jobs that oppose them. Its the partial birth/late-term abortions that are the real problem.

Republicans oppose all abortions including those done in the first trimester while democrats support all abortions including late-term/partial birth abortions at any point during the pregnancy and for any reason. Both sides have it completely wrong.

The simple solution would be to make all abortions 100% legal if done during the first trimester of the pregnancy. This covers the rape/incest angle along with any issues the woman might have of wanting or not wanting the child. There is no justifiable reason to allow abortions after the first trimester if the abortion is being done as a matter of choice or convenience.

In order to have an abortion after the first trimester, there has to be a specific allowable exception including serious health risks to the mother as well as the Down's Syndrome cases as aborting the fetus after the first trimester is murder any way you slice it of the most innocent beings on the face of the Earth.
