    Default Warren Buffett's Poor Secretary

Turns out that Warren Buffett's secretary, the one he like to use as an example about tax fairness, makes anywhere from $200,000 to $500,000 a year.

I was waiting on the White House today to knock on Prince Fielder...I mean the dude just signed a $219 Million dollar contract....Romney's 'net worth' which includes life insurance and property...not straight cash...is only worh a little more at $240M so this makes a baseball player richer than the next Presidential nominee.....where is the outrage?

    Liberal democrats are PURE HYPOCRITES.

They have 2 completely different sets of scripts depending on the political affiliation of the person they are dealing with.

When you cut through all the B.S. it all boils down to this:

The democrats want to take as much as possible from those that succeed and give that money to those they feel need it. In order to succeed in shoving their socialistic (communistic) beliefs down the throats of average Americans, they must use class warfare and demonize those that have succeeded and try and convince the middle class that the wealthy are to blame for all of their misfortunes in life.

The democratic party will always be THE PARTY OF FAILURE.

The most hysterical part of this entire phony outrage is that the Dems are the party of the Kennedy millions and the Pelosi millions and the Kerry millions and so forth and so forth.....all prominent in the party and have had opportunities to 'make the tax code fair for little people like them' yet have NEVER done it. But now.....a class warfare argument is needed to deflect from Obama's lack of a record to run on so it is suddenly the biggest threat to our nation

IF Obama and Pelosi are serious that this is such and issue that the tax code be revised immediately......then they should both resign immediately because they had the power to do so for 2 entire years and chose not to.....meaning they saw a problem and did nothing about it. Yet they expect you to vote for them because they will do so in the future?

You guys with all your bs explanations and rage. Please, you know this tax code is unfair, you know that people earning 60,000 shouldn't be paying a bigger part of their money than people earning 6,000,000. This isn't an argument with most of the American people. You guys and your fake outrage over nothing. Please, Obama has the high ground here and you guys just can't stand it.

Pay your fvcking taxes and shut the f\*\*k up about it. God already.

In all my life I never bitched about paying taxes, not once. And I worked all my life, never collected a welfare check or unemployment check. Paying taxes is patriotic, aren't you guys supposed to be patriotic? Or is that only when you feel like it. If you don't like paying taxes move. That is what you fellas used to say. Move.

Dante - The way I see it is this. Income at the higher levels is paid at a higher rate than the bottom earners - Income rates not cap gains etc- and the cutoff for the net payments into the coffers is really at the 28% and above bracket anyway, lower brackets get everything back in a refund at years end outside of the medicare/SS contributions. So the basic rate structure is already progressive enough.

Capital gains and other rates are another story. If you start trying to zero in on them and raise the rates on investment you are not only hurting 'the evil rich' but you are simultaneously hurting retirees as well as pensions of future retirees. So is it really worth it just to stick it to a select few to make yourself feel better? I mean think about it....reports are that Mitt Romney alone paid in over $6 Million in taxes last year....SIX MILLION DOLLARS!....how many thousands and thousands of people making $35k a year AGI and paying the flat rate on that amount do you think it takes to reach that enormous amount in return? So to sit back and say it's unfair is a bit ridiculous don't you think?

As far as being mad at any politician, left or right, or celebrity or business leader who makes millions per year yet only pays a certain % I say this.....as long as they are not stealing i.e. Tim Geithner...then they are to be applauded for paying exactly the bare minimum of what is legally required in taxes and not a dime more. If people are mad about that....then vote someone into the HOUSE of Reps and not the White House because until you do, tax policy will not change and again....if it's done legally....more power to them. Let them keep as much of what THEY earned and not be forced to give in unwillingly to a govt who is irresponsible with money and is owed nothing more than what it is Constitutionally allowed....not what a few on one side THINK is best for the masses.

False. If everyone paid the same % in taxes they would be much more likely to look into what the government spends the money on. It is amazing that the average US household brings in about $40,000 a year and there was outrage over a $60 a year fee from BkofAma to use a DC, but think no one will mind if someone has an extra 20% of their income confiscated. I wonder what would happen if BkofAma made a policy that they would take an extra 20% of everyones' yearly income for the use of their DC. My guess is there would be major riots and a few people would be killed.

Why has the debt only become an issue during the last 3 years? No one cared when the debt started to blow up back in the 80s, and continued through the 90s and in 00s.

Quite a few people cared about the debt back then.

OF COURSE THEY SHOULD!!! Even a flat tax is FAR TOO PROGRESSIVE and unfair to the wealthy. This is the exact reason why our founding forefathers NEVER had any intention of allowing the poor to participate in the voting process.

Our tax code is EXTREMELY PROGRESSIVE as it is.

Tax Brackets 2011 Single Married Filing Jointly Head of Household
    10% Bracket $0 – $8,500 $0 – $17,000 $0 – $12,150
    15% Bracket $8,500 – $34,500 $17,000 – $69,000 $12,150 – $46,250
    25% Bracket $34,500 – $83,600 $69,000 – $139,350 $46,250 – $119,400
    28% Bracket $83,600 – $174,400 $139,350 – $212,300 $119,400 – $193,350
    33% Bracket $174,400 – $379,150 $212,300 – $379,150 $193,350 – $379,150
    35% Bracket $379,150+ $379,150+ $379,150+

A married couple filing jointly only pays up to 15% on $69,000 of income and thats after all exemptions and deductions. Someone who earns $6,000,000 is paying 35% tax on all their income above $380,000. The Warren Buffett's of the world enjoy effective tax rates of near 15% because the vast majority of their income is attributed to long-term capital gains which are taxed at only 15% due to investment risk. Watch how quickly how eliteist hypocritical liberal democrats like Warren Buffett would change their tune if legislation was passed that taxed an individuals's NET WORTH each and every year while they are alive. A tax like that would have a huge negative effect on someone like Warren Buffett and he would spend everything in his treasure chest fighting in opposition to it.
In all my life I never bitched about paying taxes, not once. And I worked all my life, never collected a welfare check or unemployment check. Paying taxes is patriotic, aren't you guys supposed to be patriotic?
Dante, the only reason why you don't bitch about paying taxes is because you pay either very little or NO income taxes whatsoever (thanks to George W Bush who greatly reduced the tax burden on the middle class).

While liberals like yourself blame all of the problems on the wealthy not paying enough taxes in this country, in truth the MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM is that people like YOU don't pay anywhere near enough. Before asking the Mitt Romney's of the world to pay more (last year he paid well over $6,000,000 in taxes and charitable donations), YOU need to step up to the plate and start paying YOUR FAIR SHARE.

Go to line 55 of your 2010 Federal Income Tax Return and see how much income tax you actually paid. I paid a shade over $116K, how much did you pay?
Why has the debt only become an issue during the last 3 years? No one cared when the debt started to blow up back in the 80s, and continued through the 90s and in 00s.
Andy, when the deficit was rising under the Bush II adminstrations, liberal democrats across the country along with most fiscal conservatives were going absolutely nuts over Bush's deficit spending.

Don't you remember all the democrats who blasted Cheney when he said "deficits don't matter". If you don't remember this, then you just weren't listening.

Obama's rate of deficit increase is over 3X the rate of Bush and liberal democrats are deafeningly silent about it. Our country can NOT afford 4 more years of Obama. Its just that simple.

Did you do jw's widget about how long it would take your yearly salary to be
made by Romney? He would make mine in 16 hrs.

Doing the math, 6,000,000 he paid in taxes, would only take 1200 people paying
5,000 in taxes. There's a lot more people paying 5,000 than there are 6m.

I understand the more you make, the less you should pay in taxes. It's like buying
a gross instead of 10 items.

It only seems like the guys who make a nice living, bitch about their taxes and
who it goes to, compared to the working stiff who has no choice. What it is,
they have that money in hand and don't want to give it up. The working stiff
doesn't see the actual money, only the deduction on his pay stub.

Which is why andy and the like are so adamant.

If we ended withholding, it would be the end of the democratic party/big government. If we had to cut a check to the federal govt every month instead of it automatically being deducted from the paycheck people would start to wake up and say, wait WTF are those idiots in DC spending my $ on? Now its too easy for people to be complacent

This kind of talk is horrible for politics. You should not generalize EVERY democrat or EVERY republican into one lump category. Every person has different views that stray from their party's goals. Every candidate should be looked at individually, including any past legislation they sponsored, etc.

Your post is proof that the party system creates problems with generalization and a muddying of each candidates goals. I think when you run for any public office, you should not be allowed to declare a party. Everyone should have a (I) after their name...
