To show that he's not completely insensitive I believe he gave that fish away to the people in the background. In all seriousness, very, very sad situation. Not making light of the situation, just the clown in the picture.

I mean I am pretty liberal (i mean i won't even vote Democrat) and there is no way I could ever vote Republican...but I mean if you study politics like I do you know that Bush is not even a real conservative. He violates everything conservatives stand for like massive spending, big government, and a ridiculous foreign policy/aid.

I think McCain is far more realistic but I am hearing that McCain is not popular with the Republican base these days especially the religious ones. I am not sure how likely is candidacy is going to be.

If there's a Giuliani/McCain ticket in 2008 (even I would consider voting for that), they shouldn't even bother holding the election. I'm mostly a Dem too but if the best they can put forward is Hillary Clinton, we could be in trouble.

I have to think Rudy Giuliani will be the Republican candidate. He would be very tough to beat.

Good luck getting Giuliani....he may be popular among moderate/liberal republicans or conservative democrats but no way he resonates with the base.

The guy is way too liberal on social issues. He is pro-choice which in an of itself is not going to get him the candidacy and not to mention he has been "soft" on other issues like gay marriage, stem cells, etc...

It's still to early to handicapp.....but some sites are running futures and the Dems at + money are good bet early i think. Way too many salient problems right now that are going to be assigned to the Republicans right or wrong that is going to hurt them badly (i.e. Iraq, increasing poverty, gas prices, etc...)

Scout: Of course it's fake...but it is symbolic much like a political cartoon. The point the pic is trying to make is that the federal government ignored/overlooked the tragedy. The pic is just an illustration of that.

buddy bear, after the story of you being a professor at Wisconsin, its no surprise to me that you're liberal,

I am not a professor at UW. Sorry for the confusion...didn't mean to mislead people. I am a graduate student here and I receive funding by teaching. Kind of a give and take situation. They pay me next to nothing and I teach there but i get free tuition so I can't really complain and get to flirt with pretty students all day.

Right now the goal is to finish up and find a teaching job somewhere where i can teach the same course over and over and then be a semi-pro sports gambler and i can just "work" out of my office on researching games.

In terms of Hillary. Not sure what is going to happen. A lot of people say she is too polarizing which is the case right or wrong. Conversely, I've heard quite a few Republicans speak highly of her as knowing her stuff and voting in a way that would suggest she is considering a run (i.e. voting for pro-military legislation). Personally...i really don't care as both Republicans and Democrats are losers in my opinion. There are a handful of Democrats that impress me from time to time but that is few and far in between. Most are soft Republicans anyway.

I get into arguments with my conservative friends and students all the time. They tell me "thank God Kerry didn't win the election...can you imagine how things in Iraq would be if he had won." Of course this is stupid b/c things in Iraq are a disaster to begin with. But ask yourselves does it really matter who is in office...had Kerry won would your life have changed...does Bush being in office change your life at all. You still live in the same place, you still drive the same car, I still go to the same university, you still have the same job...pretty much nothing has changed of any significance.

The only people who really benefit are a few elite...those who are members of the ruling class who govern the country. So they may get some type of tax break or they might not have to worry about environemtal legislation, etc...for about 95% of the people in this country is matters very little who is in office. Frankly..i really could care less anymore.

When you look at polling as extensviely as I do....you realize that the vast majority of people in this country reject what both parties stand for and are very distubed by both of them especially their performance in Congress. Sooner or later you realize that both parties are just puppets for giant corporations and the interests of big business and an elite few who are put ahead of the common people...the people who just want normal lives, who want to raise a family and live in a world of peace and have a nice house, a car, be able to go on vaction from time to time, have a secure job...that's what most people in this country want but both parties are actively working to deny most Americans that.

I know virtually everyone here will disagree with me and think I am some extremist but that is, in my opinion what is happening these days.

Well the state and local folks dropped the ball first and worst. At the fed level brown was a clown. But the state and local officials as people that chose not to leave are the main problems. New orleans is very corrupt city a far cry from madison

The Mayor didn't want the Fed's to come into New Orleans....that guy waited to call them in then, made it look like it was their fault. He was the cause for all of the problems in NO, but then lets Oprah come to the Superdome and make it seem like some big deal....after everyone was evacuated!!! What a joke!

Just watched that O'Reilly/Donahue debate...and it seemed to me like Donahue really embarrassed ole Billy. Good for Donahue for standing up to the O'Reilly propoganda machine. Donahue told it like it is...all O'Reilly could say was that he had a nephew who just enlisted. Of course Billy's kids would never enlist.

BTW, funny pic.
"voting republican" is a great euphamism for masturbation, because it's self-serving
