Unfortunately, it is hard to sue and recover for acts, regardless of how criminal they are, that come under the guise of public office. Cheney v. U.S. District Court, 542 US 367 (2004),notes that the Supreme Court has ruled that he is absolutely immune from civil suits seeking damages for acts within the 'outer perimeters' of his official capacity.

The Federal Employees Liability Reform and Compensation Act of 1988 (the 'Westfall Act') 28 U.S.C. Sec, 2679 as amended (2000) grants federal officials absolute immunity as to common law tort claims when acting within the scope of their employment at the time of the allegedly tortuous conduct.

Further, there are several federal laws that would make this next to impossible to do, especially when it comes to Discovery-the process by which opposing parties obtain information in which to try their cases.

"The utter collapse of this Profoundly criminal Bush conspiracy will come none too soon for people like me…. The massive plundering of the U.S. Treasury and all its resources has been almost on a scale that is criminally insane, and has literally destroyed the lives of millions of American people and American families. Exactly. You and me, sport— we are the ones who are going to suffer, and suffer massively.
"The Nation's Capital" (2003-07-29) HUNTER S. THOMPSON

"I have never had much faith in our embattled child President's decision-making powers…. I know that is not what you want to hear/read at this time, especially if you happen to be serving in the doomsday mess that is currently the U.S. Army. I take no pleasure in being Right in my dark predictions about the fate of our military intervention in the heart of the Muslim world. It is immensely depressing to me. Nobody likes to be betting against the Home team."
"Fast and Furious" (2003-10-14)

"If we get chased out of Iraq with our tail between our legs, that will be the fifth consecutive Third-world country with no hint of a Navy or an Air Force to have whipped us in the past 40 years."
"Am I Turning Into a Pervert?" (2003-11-18)

I would absolutely love for Bush, Cheney and their neocon gang to be indicted for war crimes and, in the case of Cheney, treachery against the US.

It's never going to happen, but man, it would make my day. And tomorrow. And the day after.
