Sad story but TJ is not writing the book on gamblers going broke.
Happens all the time out in Nevada.
Sounds like his biggest leak in his poker game is his love of craps.

TJ once won a major tournament got paid out in chips and went straight to the craps table.
Degenerate gambler.
It is a shame because he is a talented poker player.
Ironically he plays poker like a nit.

Well if he has a gambling problem they'll most likely have to do it again.
It's well known that Cloutier's major leak is craps and it is speculated that he pretty much got rid of all his winnings that way. If they were smart they might have also given him Stanford Wong's book on precision throwing as it seems more practical for his situation.

I think what some people dont realize is most of these guys have just as much enjoyment when they lose as when they win.. That sounds ridiculous but I know a few obsessed gamblers and they will tell you they just want to win enough to keep the bankroll available so they can keep betting..

For those people who have made millions...think about how many people lost thousands.
Also the Casinos don't build billion dollar casino's on giving away money.

Most "great" players who aren't sponsored by a major site aren't sponsored for a very good reason, either due to problems like this or unsavory rumors (which imo, probably aren't even true) in the case of Amarillo Slim.

Sad story, his early tournament book was probably the 1st advanced poker book. I don't understand why he just doesn't play more tourneys if he has to gamble on something. I'm assuming he's losing on things besides poker, someone with nearly 10 million in tournament winnings.

He is a notorious craps player. Even if he played in more poker tournaments these days there is a good chance he wouldn't win one since poker has moved on and he play style is probably stuck back in 1980 like Hellmuth.

Yeah, you're probably right. Even so, his style of play would probably still be profitable overall plus he'd be away from the craps table. The bracelet he won in '05, I heard he practiced by playing $11 online tourneys before the World Series.
I still love his motto from his book I try to live by, bettor be, raiser be, caller never be. Didn't somewhere in his book he mentioned something about craps and that he did better when he brought small amount of money? I guess he deviated from that.
