New number 1
USC took all of a week to take the number 1 spot. As a lifelong Georgia fan, I can't say that we are the number 1 team now so I don't blame them. We are top 5 but not the best. We lost our best offensive lineman before the season started, then lost one of our starting defensive tackles for the season. Owens was lost, he and Atkins were considered 2 of the best D-Tackles in the league.
If we had Sturdivant and Owens we would be unquesionably number 1, but now until we play a quality and beat them USC seems to be the best team. However we get a few starters back for South Carolina including a starting offensive lineman and the best blocking fullback in the nation. I think even with the injuries we have 3 deep NFL talent on the defense and our offensive line is good even without its star. USC has a new offensive line too. We should go undefeated or lose 1 game and that will be enough to win the SEC and move on to the national championship where I pitty USC, the team we will face. |

There's a lot of parity in college football this season. 6 teams received at least 3 first place votes in the coaches poll and you could make a case for any of them being the best team in the nation.

Rankings are stupid. Records is all that matters. Every team that is 1-0 this week has the right to claim the #1 Ranking. Unless playoffs are introduced rankings will be as relevant as Sarah Palin's NRA membership is to the presidential election.

pavy the BCS is accurate because it takes in schedule strength, record, and coaches opinions.
But I agree there should be playoff system. |

Then why UCLA is not ranked #1 this week? Is Virginia a better team than Tennessee?
