Sucks that Leinart couldn't win the starting job. I still think he's going to be a good NFL starter someday, but he better start progressing in the next year or two or the window will have come and gone.

Eh, Whisenhunt will play a game of musical chairs with his QB's all year long after each one throws an interception. The guy doesn't grasp the concept of sticking with the best man to lead his team.

Kurt is a statue and he's injury prone.

Arizona WANTED him to win the job. They were PRAYING for him to win the job. They gave him EVERY opportunity to win the job...he didn't win the job.

You may be right but I'm not so sure. QB's are the hardest position to project from college to the NFL. No reason to run through the list of first round picks that busted in the NFL. Leinart may be one of them. If he's going to make it, it may take a change of scenery. I'm not sure it's going to happen in Arizona.

You are 100% right about this. They've got too much money invested in him for him to carry a clipboard for too much longer. At some point, it's as the old saying goes...it's time to piss or get off the pot. Matty time is drawing near.

Lienart will never win a playoff game in the NFL. Mark my words boys...Arizona drafts a QB next year or brings in a Veteran. Kurt only has 1-2 years left anyways...

I would have thought Leinart got the job, he's much the better QB to me. Sure, he had a rubbish pre-season game, but that doesn't mean too much in the grand scheme of things. Leinart will be a top QB for a franchise that wants him.

Hopefully the Bears trade for him, he'd be the perfect QB and shouldn't just settle for a backup slot with his talent.

But we're not seeing what's going on at camp. From everything I've read, he had a pretty bad camp and was regressing. If he's not doing the things that we've seen him do in the past, then we can't really say he should be starting. I *think* he'd be a good fit on the Bears too, but since I haven't seen him in camp I can't know for sure.

Whisenhunt coaches with the wind, Leinart will start the 3rd game if not sooner and they'll go back and forth all year long.

One of the hardest to project, but also one of the slowest to develop. QB's starting in their rookie years simply don't do very well, and what Leinart did in the action he got in 1st year was impressive. The reason everyone's so high on Jay Cutler isn't because he's performed tremendously in his first 2 years, it's because he's been pretty decent, and QB's tend to take very big jumps in their 3rd and 4th seasons. That's why I really think Leinart can take the step he needs to in the next 2 years. He hasn't been atrocious like most QB busts have looked in their first 2 years(Alex Smith, Akili, McNown, Harrington, etc..). That being said, there are plenty of examples who have performed the way Leinart has in their first two seasons and not taken the jump in their 3rd or 4th years(Couch is the first that comes to mind). I'm just saying that at this point, based on his track record, I'd put the odds in his favour.

WHISENHUNT: NO DECISION ON QB
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 25, 2008, 3:17 p.m.
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt says no decision has been made about the order of his quarterback depth chart, with Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner still competing for the starting job.

On Sunday, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, citing an unnamed source, reported that the Cardinals were set to name Warner their starter. But Whisenhunt said today that no decisions have been made.

“I haven’t read the paper today or seen the Internet,” Whisenhunt said in a radio appearance this morning, per the Arizona Republic. “Do we have a quarterback? … It seems like Chris Mortensen is making the decision on our quarterback for our football team. … But nothing has changed.”

Leinart was horrible against the Raiders on Saturday, and if Whisenhunt bases his decision on the way the quarterbacks have played during this year’s preseason or last year’s regular season, then his decision is easy: Warner. But Whisenhunt said there’s more to the quarterback race than what the public sees.

“Look, we’ve put in a lot of work,” Whisenhunt said, “and it’s based on a body of work. We don’t have to make that decision right now.”

True, the Cardinals don’t have to make the decision right now. But they do have to make it pretty soon. Whisenhunt comes across like a man who knows the decision he needs to make but doesn’t want to make it.

Just saw this too. Mortensen probably feels like a dumbass lol.

EDIT: Actually it's even funnier because the two headlining NFL columns on ESPN today were praising Warner/killing Leinart.

I live here in Arizona, and even though I'm not a big Cardinals fan, I still like to cheer for the home team. Unless there playing the Packers.

In my opinion, and thats all it is. Kurt Warner is the better choice for right now. Let Matt sit for a few games, and realize that he has the potential to be really good.

Matt's still a bit of a party boy, which in the off season is ok I guess, but he tends to still party to much during the season. Like last year and the pictures of him in the hot tub drinking with some pretty young girls. They weren't underage, but they were young.

Don't get me wrong I like Matt, and I think he has potential, I just think he needs to get his head on a little more straight. Again just my opinion.

Warner moves the ball much better to receivers and gives them the best chance to win.

My 2 cents is that Matt will be a good QB in the NFL. Maybe in Arizona yet. He can toss the ball up to those good receiver's, too and prob do well in time. I hope he makes it. I am a Warner fan, also. I am glad for Warner and he was deserving of the spot in the 1st place with his experience and veteran leadership. Still a 9-7 regular season team, though. Cinderella is still in the hunt.
