Default Any advice you can give a young kid like me about gambling?

well im 19, started gambling last year first it was casino gambling, lost there (didnt even know about odds and stuff) then poker, lost there, then sports betting, lost there, overall I probably lost around 10-12K

Im just wondering is it even possible to win in this business, and should I

a) continue gambling and try to learn the industry
b) quit while im ahead
c) something else

I just wanna know, does anyone gamble profesionally and have a meaningful and fulfilling life? or is that just a dream???

Learn how to gamble PROPERLY..... there is a ton of good information on this site, but definately NOT in the players talk forum. If you aren't going to take the time to learn it right than i suggest you take the second option.

And yes it can be done.

it's a known stat that 1 in 2300 gamblers win long term.. even the ones that win every year, somehow, believe it or not, there comes a day when they give it all back.. it's just like that. i've seen it with my own eyes many a times. that's how gambling works.. greed catches up to them, or they chase losses, get stiffed by a few bookies here and there, and next thing you know, they end up broke. even if it's in 23 yrs, they will go broke.

but for now, 1 in 2300 win long term.. so your chances are not too good.. my advice.

Gamblers gamble because it's an addiction. Many get buried, some break even, some get rich. Most get buried.

At least 2% or not more of guys win. That is why so many books fail. But even though guys are up lifetime, does not mean they are not broke, I am broke, at least in terms of debts vs. cash, but will never be down lifetime.

You guys play some hockey? I would give you each ten breakaways and you wouldn't score on more than 2, between both of you.... haha seriously... although i'm not being a dick I just had a few bevies tonight. good times boys, oh and took another $280 of my bookie, not much but always better than a loss, up $880 for the week... but in the end kids i will give it all (and more) back... maybe hahaha

Go get a degree in a useful field. That way when your gambling career fails, you'll have something to fall back on.

Dont bet what you cant afford to lose and more importantly, dont lose what will depress you if you lose it!!! But most important of them all. If you are going to bet, only send your money to the top books. Books that wont **** you when you are lucky enough to win big. Pay no attention to bonuses. Scam books like BetUS and Bet Royal love to offer high bonuses. They will stiff you if you win substantially. Stick with A+ books only. GL

I think being 19 and already down 10/12k should be a good sign that maybe its not for you. Perhaps use a smaller roll until you learn sound money mgmt.

From where you're at now, it's going to take you a long time to get close to being able to sustain [x]% long term, even if you hit 60% over an NFL season and feel you're ready to go "pro"- that's just one season, not sustainable long term. My advice is to keep gambling as an expensive hobby, make sure you have some other income which is dependable and use a % of that per check to gamble- not more. That way, you avoid getting into the hole and only risk what you can afford. Have fun gambling, don't try to make it a day job because it wipes most everyone out who gives it a go in that regard. Post, talk about games, and just relax, don't gamble with rent money.

I think you need a rough experience to start out. Then you learn.

Thanks for the advice guys, i really appreciate it. I think I will just start with about 5k (and bet around 80-100/game) this season and if I lose it, then im done for life, and If i make something ill continue but be very cautious...

Do you think thats a good plan?

Well, if you bet 80-100 a game max and lose $5000 then I guess you'd at the very least want to lower your bet size even more. Quitting for life because of one bad season doesn't seem like a great idea, especially if you stick to that money management outline. If you lose $5000 betting 80-100 a game max you will have gotten unlucky, assuming you don't chase/double down or bet parlays etc. Worst you should do is just lose a big chunk of it, if you truly stick to that money management plan you'll either lose a little, break even, or profit. Would take a real bad run to wipe that roll out with those guidelines.

I thought of another piece of advice. Obviously I don't know where you live, but whatever you do, don't sign up for any handicapping service, touts JJGold calls them. Those are downright pathetic, borderline scams!

I wish that was something I had known at the time.

unit,

you should be a comedian.. if you lose, you're done for life? do you know how many times in my gambling career i have heard this from different guys? I would say 8.587 times, NO JOKE.. and out of 8,587 times, do you know how many ddn't quit? 8,587. win or lose, once you're in, you can't get out.. the only way anyone ever quits is if they go broke OR die.

panner,

3 wks ago, after my vid, you thanked me a million times for making you quit.. and now i assume you are back, right? you think i didn't know you'd be back panner. panner, in my gambling career, NO JOKE.. i have heard 4,584 people say they have quit for life. .and you know how many ending up going back to gambling?? that's right, 4,584..

TO EVERYBODY, DON'T EVER SAY YOU ARE QUITTING BECAUSE YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME..

GAMBLERS CANNOT QUIT. THIS IS A SERIOUS ADDICTION.

1% of 5k is $50
2% of 5k is $100

Stick to those figures and go slow if you disregard going to get a college degree first. Good luck, cub.
