I'm talking about sports betting.

The problem is that literally any time I decide to sit at my computers - 24/7/365 - there is money to be made.

If I don't have straight wagers to get down, there are always arbs, scalps, middles. There is alway research to analyze - and new ideas to initiate.

I feel like it's healthy to take a couple days off a week - but when I try, my mind will work on me.

Dude, just put in a couple hours and scrape together a few dollars. Just upate the spreadsheet data. Just check if that payout has reached Neteller and take care of that other deposit.

i think most people probly do that very exact same thing mudcat. i've learned over the years that control is key when betting. disapline will make you more money over the long run.

I agree with you that I may be missing out, but I run a baseball and softball school for a living...I'm around it 24/7...I just can't watch it on TV...and I only like to bet on sports that I really enjoy watching...that's pretty much why I don't bet on baseball...

I generally take Thursdays "off" during baseball season, or very light that day, and get an full 12 hours kip to refresh me for the weekend grind ;o)

I've also been known to take Mon or Tue off if they're light schedules.

During NFL and NCAA Football (I rarely do hoops), there's plenty of rest days.

Agree 100%. This makes it so much different from a 9 to 5 job. There are almost no days I “have to” work, yet really there is also no time I can relax and say, “There’s no work for me to do now; this is my time.”

I just try to find the right balance. If I do it too much, then I’ll be missing out on so much else in life. On the other hand, if I do it too little, I’m always afraid that day is going to come when—after a few shops go down and steal our money plus I just happen to have a horrible cold streak with my handicapping—I’ll be saying to myself, “You know, I’d still be in the game, still have a bankroll, still be in OK shape financially, if only I’d taken advantage of a few more of the available opportunities way back when. This run would have damaged me rather than wiped me out if only I’d built up more when I had the chance.”

One thing I’ve noticed is that taking time away from it doesn’t seem to refresh me and put me more in the mood to get back to it. To the contrary, I find I’m having to force it more than usual after a break. Getting away from it kind of takes me out of my rhythm.

On the other hand, I do feel burnt out on it if I don’t take some time away, so again it’s all about trying to find a balance.

I completely relate Mud. It's tough for me to shut it down sometimes. I'm always looking for an angle. I'm finally taking a break next month though. I owe it to myself.

i usually take my breaks at the all-star breaks of each of the 4 major U.S. sports. now thats what i call turning it off and on like a switch

I only like to bet on sports that I really enjoy watching...that's pretty much why I don't bet on baseball...

I find watching a game where I have financial interest in the outcome ... unhelpful.

I'm glad you mentioned that TLD. That's exactly what I've found. I believe in days off and vacations and coming back refreshed, but the reality of it seems to be that being there every day is what keeps the mind freshest.

I once read that backgammon players have to be playing every day to be in form, while chess players could take time off and get their minds back to their games pretty quickly. If that's true, I find this enterprise more like backgammon than chess.

So many things to do besides betting, I find it very tough to get back into it, especially after a vacation. But in the end the money wins out, but I certainly don't have trouble taking time off.

The girlfriend certainly helps keep things in balance. She's great and I'm not thinking about betting when I'm with her.

I didn't used to be such a money-oriented dude but I am getting that way.

I certainly know what you mean. I can't remember the last time I played a video game on my PC (when I used to do it a ton). Now my computer is a medium to make money on sports, poker, etc.

If I have a BS cheater move losing streak, I'll stop for a little bit. i used to have trouble doing this because no matter what time of year it was, I always thought it was the most impotant time in terms of making money, but now I realize you can make money all year around. Thats what is great about this.

They should have college classes and majors on this. It's that important. To bad, this weak country can't get that through there fat guts and bald heads.

If there were college classes in this, the lines would be so much more accurate and there'd be so much competition it'd be nearly impossible to make money. Enjoy the anonymity
