Finally Made This Horse Handicapping Video!
This won't be anything new to most of you, just how parimutuel betting works... but before I can get into the handicapping people have to know what they are up against.
Still, its nice to finally get this project off the ground! Can't wait until we get into the advanced stuff

I'm going to make something similar to this I think, I haven't seen it though cos I'm at work now.
Hard for me to make videos, if my gf found out I was posting gambling videos she might leave me.
boys, she pays 2/3 of the rent so this is not an option.

good job, usky..
but you know what usky, i have been a gambler all my life and i have bet on everything, but for some reason, i could never ever get into horse racing.. i never understood it, i never enjoyed it.. looks boring as hell, and most important, i have seen so many go down in horses. i know it's difficult to beat because the house makes something like 16% or more i hear..
but by watching that vid, i actually learnt something about horses that i never knew.. i always thought horses was stupid because unlike sports, if i handicap a horse at 22-1, and some losers pour in after me, and it closes at 9-1, why the hell should i be penalized. why cant it be like sports, where if i see a weak line, play it.. then horses would be more fun and challenging.. this is something i dont understand why it is not like this.
but what i learnt was i had no idea you can actually cancel your bet prior. this is crazy.. but now i have to wait in line again and will i have the time to cancel?
good job, usky.. i'm sure people that bet horses will love your vids. you did a good job.

They have those self service machines these days, you can change your bet into a cash voucher in seconds right up to post time.

You have to remember though that line movement doesn't always work against you. You may cap a horse at 3 to 1 that the public doesn't see the merits in and it goes up to 8 to 1 and you cash that ticket at huge value.
This is why you just handicap the race and then watch the board... don't place bets 15 mins before post time... wait it out, watch trends, and then bet for value.
But I'll be getting into all that over the next few episodes. Thanks for watching Nicky! I'm in LA too we'll have to hit up the races one day beers on me

This is very educational USC, I dont know anything about horse betting. Please keep them coming!
A couple of thoughts here. Obviously you are just talking about a single track here right? The online bets arent counted are they? Unless they are made on that particular tracks website?
My next thought. If the bets go up and down, then wouldn't you just make a bunch of bets and if they move in your favor keep them, and if they dont then you just cancel them and become rich? There has to be something that keeps this from happening. Maybe I'm getting ahead of the video sequence here.

Nice Video US but in the long run betting the ponies is a sucker bet unless you have some inside info on a fix. I go to the track every now and than but just for fun.

ALL off track betting, websites like TVG included, affect odds. Some books offer set odds VS. just the book which is a separate thing, but if you are betting somewhere where odds are fluctuating, you are in the parimutuel pool.

Well keep in mind the horses you bet actually have to WIN the races (unless you bey other things but that is next episode)! So you can bet a horse at 3 to 1 and it can move to 12 to 1 (great for you!) and still lose, and you lose.
Value is in the eye of the beholder. Think sports betting. If I offer you NYY -110 ML VS. Baltimore, you may be getting great value, but if the Yanks lose, you still lose. You will have to break down the stats of the race and decide where the value is yourself... something very tricky to do and something my videos will at least give you some idea of what to do.

Ponies are virtually unbeatable without taking HOURS of time hanicapping, watching race videos, going to your local tracks at dawn and watching workouts, etc etc.
HOWEVER, knowing what to look for in races, where to find value, where to find a false favorite or a live longshot, knowing HOW to bet races for maximum return when you are right, all these things lower the house edge.
I'm not claiming you will be turned into a winner... I still go out to the races and lose. However, since reading these books and learning all this information, I now win fairly often to and have scored on some pretty big tickets.
In the end, the house wins 99.99% of the time. But like sports betting which gives us the illusion of control (with stats), horse racing has a wealth of stats that you can study too and feel like you can make educated guesses.
And trust me... hitting a horse you did your HW on is so much more fulfilling then picking one for its cool name.

Useful video. Just to add to the takeout issue. Each state has its own percentage of takeout for different wagers. It pays to know this if you are looking for an edge. Each racetrack posts the % of takeout in the programs. This information is also available in the Daily Racing Form.
General rule of thumb. New York tracks are the best for the player. California and Kentucky are next in line. Pa. and Canada have some of the highest takeouts in certain types of wagers and should be avoided for daily play.

Horse betting is no different than gambling. Most people don't win gambling in the long run either. You should be betting ponies because you like the sport. It's nice to goto the track, cash a few tickets that pretty much paid for the trip.
