    Default Thumbs up/Thumbs down

After another eventful weekend, I invite you to give thumbs up or down to the things that have amused, confused or amazed you in the whacky world of games and betting.

    First of all a belated

    THUMBS UP

To the memory of Jim "Shaky" Hunt, a fixture in the Toronto Sports media for 50+ years, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 79. A great story-teller and genuinely good-natured soul, he will be missed in these parts.

    THUMBS UP

To Canadian Stephen Ames for winning The Tournament Players Championship.

    THUMBS DOWN

To fickle Canadian golf fans. Ames is a repatriated Canadian whom, until now, has often been treated like an outsider. But now everyone is his best friend and the comments about, "Hey Mike Weir, take a lesson on how a Canadian doesn't choke in the final round!" are being flung left, right and center.

To George Mason for an incredible run into the Final 4. One helluva' game yesterday.

To the media in general for how they skewered Astros oaner Drayton McLane for filing the insurance claim on Jeff Bagwell in late January. Now that it looks like Bags may indeed be done, none of those experts has stepped forward to say a word about how McLane made the right business decision.

I'm sending a big thumbs up to KK ReDick and Cracked Dam MorriSon for making sure legitimate Player of the Year candidates didn't have to deal with any press this season.

At least after their short-lived NBA careers fizzle out they can become soap actors and bang out a few more tears for large audiences.

Wait a minute!!! For some reason every time I try to make my thumb go up, my middle finger does instead. Poor motor skills I guess.
