Default What are your feelings about OFF-TOPIC discussion?

Me, I like it. I have a lot of interests outside of sports and betting. I get into movies, music, books, humor, pop culture etc. etc.

I'm thinking I'll start more threads on OFF-TOPIC stuff - and maybe other people will too - but I'd like to know people's thoughts on the best place to post. As I see it, these are the choices.

    1) Just go for it in the main forum.

    2) In the Private forum.

    3) A new General Discussion forum.

    4) Don't bother posting OT stuff at all.

My vote is for 3. I don't want clutter up the main forum where Industry discussion is SBR's bread and butter. The Private forum gets too drama-heavy for civilized discussion sometimes.

    Thoughts?

Should definitely be off the main forum. Next thing you know, people will be looking for dates in here...

I think the main should be for 'bookie chat' and the private (which is a lame name) should be general. I spend all my time in the private forum and it can feel like hanging around the toilets sometimes.

    Dammit all to Hell.

At the behest of Tony Kornheiser, I "always wear white".

Right now I'm sporting a mop on my head and a sixth-grader's mustache. If you look closely at my face you can see the tracks of tears. Call me Adam.

I like the Off Topic stuff.

I do think we need a new forum for it. I voted for #3, because we dont need to clutter up the Main forum.

Also dont think it should go in the Private forum, or re-name the Private forum. Because we need the Private for flames and porn.

So a new forum for Off Topic and things could be the way to go.

I like the Off Topic discussions just for the break from sports and wagering talk. Voted #1, but that was before reading the good point Mudcat and others raised. My experiences at other forums have shown that sometimes you can get too specialized with forum divisions. But in this case, perhaps it makes sense.

Let's just post in the promotions forum. That forum sucks anyways and is filled with touts. LOL.

Even though I voted for 3, I agree with that too. There probably is no perfect solution.

Mind you, I didn't consult with any techies to see if a new General Discussion forum was even a viable option.

What I probably didn't stress enough is that I'm not talking about 2 new threads a week or something like that. I could post quite a bit of stuff. I get a lot of ideas popping into my head over the course of a workday and I work alone so there is no outlet except you guys.

Well maybe I'll ease into it, primarily in the main forum with the more frivolous stuff in Private. We've got some funny people here and I mainly just want to generate more laughs for myself.

But I feel weird every time I post something OT in the Main Forum. I feel like I'm farting in church or something.

Off topic threads have there place in the main forum. Like Willie said, we don't wanna have too many specialized forums. I say keep them in the main forum for now.

I dont feel that way. Because the Off Topic stuff can very well bury the Offshore news and updates. That is something we dont want to happen. So we do need to put the Off Topic stuff in its own forum. This keeping the important things at the top of the Main or Industry News forum.

Members that come here for industry news dont usually use the "Search" feature and I know they dont want to scroll through all the Off Topic stuff to find something they are possibly here looking for.

I agree more with this than anything else I have read. Selfishly for me I admit but I browse about 8-10 forums with gambling content, I go to the main forum for each one. Hard to make time to browse several different forums within each site. And believe me if there is book information on the main forum then I will find it no matter how much OT stuff there is. I just hate a site with 100 different categories of topics broken down into their own forum and little to no participation in most of them.

The OT in the main forum almost defines the personality of a site, I see nothing at all wrong with it here. Always been sort of a catch-all for these gaming forums and I hope it always will be.

I like off-topic stuff...I plan on starting an "Ask Pags" OT thread after the big dance ends...it will be Leykis-esk on focusing how to get chicks into bed with as little money spent as possible...coming soon...

#3. OT stuff is good. But yes, a new forum for it would be good.

I almost invariably click "new posts" so it doesn't matter to me though I voted main forum.

Huh. I wasn't even aware of that option - until now. It's a good thing I'm not a mod here or something.

I like the idea of off topics on another section, and use the private to post porn and stuff like that

That's exactly what I was thinking, but the poll is way too close so things will more than likely stay the same.
