Bit stupid but how do you convert US style odds to decimals?
e.g.
Birmingham v Liverpool is
Bham +500. Lpool -200. Draw +270.
What would these be in good old deciamsl please?

US odds:
- Over 100, multiply by 1.0 for each 100. For instance, +500 = 5x and +270 = 2.7 x.
- Under 100, divide by the number. Here 100/200 = 0.5x
For the standard -110 that is: 100/110 = 0.909

Kind of interesting that 1 is added for decimals. That 1 is the money you risk.
In the US the only thing that counts is the profit.
Different philosophies?

Only in the case of a better than even money dog. If you're with a negative money line then "the only thing that counts" is the "at risk amount".Originally Posted by Dark Horse

Perfact. thanks gents.
Yes, the adding the one is important. We also use fractions a lot and the stake isnt included there (ie 1.5 ... or -200??? ... is simply written as 1/2) ... go into any high street bookie and all the odds are in fractions. Until a couple of years ago I would translate decimals to fractions but now Ive got used to decimals ... they are perfect for odds comparisons and analysis.

I personally like the decimals more. Might be obvious as i'm from Europe. Just seems much more convenient to me. Just multiply your stake with the decimal odd and you get the payout including your stake.

It's like the Metric System. It's so much more intuitive and much easier to manipulate mathematically, but Americans are too stubborn to take 3 seconds to learn it.
