Unhappy What a way to start the holiday weekend.

When I went to leave the casino yesterday, my car would not start. It would turn over perfectly, but wouldn't even once try to fire. Seems to me like its not getting fuel or spark. I got a ride home last night and still have to go look it over more, before the possible towing to the shop.

You ever have that feeling in your gut that something was going to happen. I said to myself the other day that this car won't start one of these days.

Well anyway, I'm waiting on a ride so I can go grab something to eat and check somethings out on the car. My sons birthday party is tomorrow as well. Things like this usually seem to happen on holidays for me.

I might have to rent a car to get around next week, if I can't get this thing going in the next few days.

Thats sucks Looker.

Don't be late for your son's birthday party, Otherwise he will end up causing you more fits than your car repairs.

I rented a car today, and will be having my car towed on Monday.

Yeah, its a 1998. Things are going to start going out.

InTheHole, it sounds to me like a fuel pump to. But its in the tank. Something I do not want to tackle on my own.

I wouldn't want to either...if it is I hope you were on "E" because it's under your rear seat inside the gas tank...I think...lol

just had one of my dads friends from his work put in a fuel pump on my 96 Ford van last fall, he had to drop the tank and all that, it was right on top of the tank.

could also be something as simple as a sensor. i had a friend that had hit a big pothole one time and then about a month later hit a curb and his car died, car would start but wouldn't get gas, turned out there was some cut-off switch to cut fuel if you're in a wreck and because he had hit those other things it must have tripped it. ended up being in the rear hatch of his escort behind one of his side panels.

Onlooker,

I have had several mustangs and am faily knowledgable about cars in general and especially mustangs. I was a mechanic when I was 18-21 yrs old but soon realized it sucked working on cars all the time.

When you turn on the switch(don't turn it over, just turn to the on position) you should hear the fuel pump if you listen carefully. If you dont hear a slight buzzing sound, that is probably the problem.

If you do hear the pump, then you might have a problem with the ignition system. Something like you mentioned, getting spark to the cylinders. You can buy an inline spark tester for cheap. It is a link that connects to the spark plug and the plug wire. It has a light in the middle and will light up if it is firing. You can also put it on the coil going to the distributor.(I can't remember if this model has a coil pack for each cylinder just one coil.

Or you can just pull off one spark plug wire from a plug and hang it to the side and see if it sparks.

PM me if you have any questions and I will try to help. Or you could just let them tow it and not have to worry about it. Either way, hope your weekend gets better!

Yep. There is also a fuel pump cut off switch inside the trunk of Mustangs. I think most are on the drivers side near the back of the trunk. To the left and in front of the tail light, I think.

Onlooker,

Is this a V6 or a V8?

Yeah, I checked the cut off switch in the trunk. Its fine.

Its a V8 chandler. I don't hear the usual pump sound like I use to.

Pavy, there is gas in it.

Onlooker,

You may have done so already, but the only simple thing I can think of without deciding it is the fuel pump is the possibility that the fuel pump relay is bad.

It should be located in the fuse panel under the hood and not the one inside the car. If you can locate it, you can use a paperclip and stick it in both sides of the relay. Leave the relay in place and stick one end in each side of the fuse itself. This will bypass the relay and let you knwo if that is the problem.

You seem to have knowledge about cars. You may have already tried this. I am jsut trying to think of some simple things it could be and save you an expensive towing bill for a 5 dollar part.

Good luck man.

Why do you drive a van? Get a motorcycle. 50+ miles per gallon. Chicks dick it.

I think I may of narrowed it down. The theft device may of crapped out. The car may not be recognizing the key sensor. Because the theft light doesn't go off when you turn the key, but instead it starts to blink a bit faster. So that means the ignition isn't engaging.

I had it towed to Ford and they haven't called me yet about it, but it was close to closing time.
