Good luck Jags, probably the best European player ever to play in the NHL.

only if you forget about everybody else. does the name Igor Larionov mean anything to you? Just to name one of the greatest ever, anywhere. How about Stastny? or to name better players from his era: Feodorov, Bure
|

Federov and Bure are not even close. Larionov was a great player, but I don't know how to compare defensemen to forwards. Statsny was a great offensive player in a time where offense was the norm, Jagr was a great offensive player where offense was not.

first. Larionov was a center. Feodorov a uniquely talented all around player. Jagr a strong, big forward. He is more like Peter Forsberg who in fact is no worse than Jagr.

My bad, I was thinking about Konstantinov. I don't remember Larionov that much, I looked him up and the guy never scored more than 21 goals and 71 pts, doesn't even seem to be a comparison. Fedorov is one of the more overrated hockey players I have ever seen, he was a great two-way player, but his offensive ability was not anywhere near Jagr's. Forsberg is close, but I still give the nod to Jagr. The problem with all the guys you mentioned is they were never the best player in the league, and Jagr was.

The problem for NHL fans or maybe Americans is that they have limited knowledge of anything beyond NHL hockey. The fact that your hardly aware of Larionov is a case in point. And Feodorov was underrated if anything. Maybe you can say that Jagr is the more prominent or famous european player, with a long career in the NHL. His best years were in Pittsburgh when Mario was the big name.

He did it for money, Rangers of course will miss him and now probably come in last place. He is so a very good player.

Rangers will come in last place? I'm not Rangers fan, but I have them winning that division next year, or at the very least picking up the 4 seed. Jagr will be missed, but they are just as good, if not a better overall team than last season.

Wow
Thats a lot of money. But not surprising. You'd have to pay him a lot more to play in a shit league and live in Russia (compared w/ NYC).

Wow, that's a lot of money for Jagr.....They're throwing a lot of money for NHL players these days.....Let's see if Jagr gives the russians 100% effort with his playing.

35 million is over the length of the contract which includes his optional 3rd year. ITs tax exempt but not neccisarrly legal money in that league.
But The russian mob is doing shakedowns on the league and its players...so who knows...how that will go. Jagr is a douchebag... |

Media outlets are reporting 35 mill over 2 years with an option for third, but Jagr said in an interview on tsn that he will be paid aboot 5 mill/year.

sorry boys, but JAGR ain't the best European ever. I'd go with
Peter Stastny http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2007...tastny_195.jpg Next to The Great One, Stastny was the highest scoring player in the 80's. he averaged slightly more pts than Jagr did in his career.. and don't forget, Stastny had no one good as his teammates, besides Goulet.. Whereas Jagr played more than half his career with Super Mario. |

hockey is the greatest game ever. But the greatest hockey is not always played in North America. If you want to debate the best players in tne NHL and their stats fine. But when you talk about the greatest players in the world ever, or the best Europeans that happened to play some of their carriers in the nhl, you shouldnt base it on NHL stats. There has never been anyone better then the KLM line. If you dont know who that is then keep your analysis to the nhl. Considering we cant even watch the world championships here its hard to compare anything. Stastny brothers wrere some strong players.

the KLM line was a flop in the NHL.. have you ever seen a bigger bust than Krutov? or even better, how much of a flop was Sergei Makarov? this guy was the gretzky of russia, and considered to be the greatest player in the world, and when he came to NHL he was horrid. he didn't last too long here. i think the NHL pressure, the hard hitting, and the size of the players in N.Americas intimidated him..

you think alot, but ruusian record against nhl teams is dominant. so u can make up whatever u want, but the greatest hockey was played on the international scene

makarov was 36 entering the nhl. if you remember he won rookie of the year, he was anything but a dud. several years later him and Larionov carried the pretty weak Sharks to a first round sweep of the 1st seated Red Wings. Some of their plays in the series were nothing short of spectacular. Larionov had a long carrier in the NHL. The most creative player I've ever seen in the NHL. Krutov was more interested in hot dogs i hear. But these guys proved everything and set a new standard in hockey way before coming to the nhl

I would say that Jari Kurri is the best European player of all time, the stats and championships back it up.

dashy
i wouldn't put kurri in there, maybe 5th best ever.. his stats are nowhere near stastny or jagr. PLUS, and most important, he played along side Gretzky for his whole career and he wasn't even a 2 way player. He was always at the right place at the right time waiting for the gretzky feed. if you put anyone with gretzky on the same line, they would have had 100 pts a yr, easily. even the avg players. dashy, if they put you or me with gretzky, we might get 50 pts.. |

Igor Ulanov. He was so good, he tripped onto the ice for his shifts.
Let's go Rangers!!!!! Jagr's production declined last year. If Russia is better for him, let him go there. I don't wanna see him as the highest paid player on the team and see him tally under 50 pts this year. Wouldn't be worth it. |
