Default How good will Joba Chamberlain be?

I can't stop hearing about this Joba guy. Yankees prospects, as with the Yankees in general - are always hyped, but then again the few that NY doesn't buy and actually grow that get this buzz usual turn out to be legit (Jeter, Rivera, Pettite, Soriano, Cano (maybe?)) Considering he's pitching a gem tonight (granted against the Pirates) I figure I'd get some opinions. I'll bump this thread in 5 years.

How good will he be?

Saw him pitch in person in Houston. He's impressive and should only get better with improved stamina. Not ready to annoint him an ace quite yet, but he certainly looks to be an anchor for the Yanks staff that sorely needs one with Wang down.

They said the same staff about Mark Prior when he broke into the majors.

What I meant is that it's too early to tell how well will he develop. You can't tell how good or bad is after 5 starts.

I'd rather have Clay Bucholtz or Chad Billingsley though.

Joba's only got two pitches right now, you can't be a starter only throwing two pitches. I expect his curve to get better, and it looked decent tonight, but I'll take Bucholtz or Billingsley.

Oops, I just realized I have been saying Billingsley, I was thinking of Kershaw and typing Billingsley. But I would still take Bucholtz over Chamberlain.

I think he can have a good 5 year run or so, without steroids now will be hard for power pitchers to have any longevity.

Pavy,
You're 100% right, of course. The key is health. If he stays healthy, he's got a shot to be very good for a long time.

Joba has 4 pitches....he only used two when he was setting up Mo. Fastball, Slider, Curve and a Change Up. When he was pitching out of the pen he was only using his fastball and slider.

He's going to be legit and he looks like he's getting more comfortable with every start.

He looks like an overweight guy that's straining himself on the mound.I have seen guys like this in high school baseball and they all got abdominal problems with hernias and such.I know,David Wells lasted a long time as a whale.Mark my word,Joba will get a hernia before the season is over and will be on the DL list.

Any sportsbook want to give me odds on the chances of Joba getting a hernia before season's end?Oh,I forgot, they call them sports hernias in sports.Hell,I have been hearing allot about women in sports getting them. What's that all about,I thought women weren't supposed to get them?

Well in his starts he has been the best start for start pitcher in baseball, the question is without steroids how long can he do this?

3 years maybe?

I don't mind if he throws at someone like Milton Bradley, but not a good man like Youk.

I'm not a Yankees fan, but I really think this guy is going to be the top pitcher of the next decade. His stuff is so ridiculous. He's basically impossible to hit a homerun off. Roy Halladay's groundball rate, with Johan Santana's strikeout rate.

Best pitcher ever. Will easily break Cy Young's all-time wins record.

Ace, and nothing short of it. He's got 4 awesome pitches and it usually only takes 3 to be an ace. I wouldn't worry about an injury as much as I would some other guys like Lincecum because of his Body type.
