Default Good ways to deal with negative playing days.

Since I have been broke more times than most of you have had birthdays I think I’m qualified to throw out some ideas.

I’ll start off with a few things not to do. The most important is to realize you are susceptible to temper losses. So tell yourself no matter what happens the rest of the day I’m going to stay positive. Knowing that you will not get mad the rest of the day actually can relax you. If you hop in your wheels to run to the store and some blue head cuts you off, pay them no mind cause you have promised yourself that nothing will get your goat. For you drinkers, don’t take your first drink until an hour before you plan to hit the rack for the night.

This time of year we usually know in the early evening if we have rung the bell or had our bell rung. I rent a couple of comedy movies each week to play in case my card gets smoked. On good weeks I’ve been known not to watch them at all. My rx kit includes at least one unwatched comedy. Got a dog? Throw on some head phones with some Rush 2112, or your favorite music and walk the dog in the night air for 45 minutes. Some other jewels;

Call a relative and chat. Maybe you got a brother or sister or dear ole Mom that you haven’t talked to in a while.

Play chessmaster on your computer and take back all bad moves guaranteeing a stalemate at worse.

If you got access to a pool take a dip and swim a couple of laps under water.

Knock a chore out, one that you will have to do in the morming anyway.

Throw your suggestion out there…

Good ideas John, and they said you weren't just a pretty face!

I personally liked:
"Throw on some head phones with some Rush 2112"

Sounds like a plan.

I am very hard on myself, I ride myself pretty good and at times can get overly results oriented. Nothing worse than feeling you overlooked something, or made the wrong play regardless. Other instances of anger include when you have a winning day, but stayed too temperate in your play size. All kinds of things piss me off from gambling, but I love it.

The way I balance things out is just to enjoy a good meal, try to make use of my speaker system and play a few songs, I really don't have much of a personality aside from being infatuated with gambling so that's about it. Oh and exercise is big too, breaks the monotony of watching lines or reading so many hours a day, plus it will help you get laid! That's if you're single, married people don't get laid anyway..

The recreational players should bet within their means and should NOT have BAD days. If you do, you need help.

The aspiring professionals should have this part of their game worked on. There are many helpful resources on trading psychology that are perfect match for the sports investor they wish to become.

The professionals should not care much. If you do, you need a career change. We live only once. It is not worth it.

On a side note, it is a pleasure to see SBR_John posting while a lot of crap moved out of the forum.

JJgold is hilarious. Here the old man is trying to be nice, and Gold goes crime, drugs and sex. Hilarious
Personally, after a loss, I go to go to work, and forget my losses and work harder to make more money.

Great advice about staying positive. Every great run I've had, I was in a positive/happy mood throughout. I guess it could just be a byproduct of winning but there's been times where I would be on a nice run then something happens in my personal life to sour my mood and I'd go the other way.

I think a bad day can mean more than financial reasons. If you are betting 1-2% per play, and 6 plays a day, and you do awfully, it's human nature to feel bummed out. I don't care how "sharp" someone is, nobody likes to lose even with the mathematical comfort of sticking to what they perceive to be half, full, a quarter, or ounce worth of "Kelly".

It's more important to not have a losing year than having a losing day.

If you lose and that frequently makes you feel down then stop playing and find another hobby. If you cannot, seek help.

I think it's not so black and white. I know you're a numbers guy first and foremost like Ganch, and as such a bit disconnected with any emotion or psychology in gambling, but feeling a loss does not make one a problem gambler. It just means you have blood in your veins, it doesn't mean you break down and cry, or punch a hole in the wall, it just means you get irritated for a few minutes. Maybe you go smoke a cigarette, take a walk etc.

Anybody that acts like no loss phases them mentally ever in any way merely because they're utterly disciplined is simply full of sh-it in my opinion. Yes you make an "+EV wager", blah blah, so you will never be discontent with any outcome etc. Doesn't matter if a team blows a 6 run lead in the 9th, it's just "one game" and that will never invoke a drop of sweat or obscenity.

Punch the TV if you have a horrible day as long as its standard def worst itll cost you is another couple hundred and a bloody hand. If you have HD you may want to find something cheaper.

Crazyl, you are mixing up two different approaches. While recreational players seek and enjoy drama the professionals should work on the ways to disconnect from it as best as they could. A psychologically weak trader/gambler will blow it all sooner or later. The psychological aspect is of no less importance than the numbers.

Let me reemphasize, I'm not suggesting someone that gets shaken by each and every loss isn't a problem type gambler. I'm just saying that it's ridiculous to act like no loss, no matter how fluky, can ever dampen someones mood in ANY way, if that person is at all serious with wagering.

That is nutty. It is suggesting that only "squares" can actually say Are you f-cking kidding me if 6 runs are scored in the bottom of the 9th, and actually get pissed off because of it. Overly math oriented try to take the emotion out of gambling I understand, but if you happen to glance at a box score or review a highlight, check your pulse if losing in the most wacky of ways doesn't even make you bat an eye. Or tuning in and seeing you went 0-5 on the day.

I am not saying that if you treat it like a business you should not feel the loss or a win. What I am saying is that it should NOT be something relatively big you want to deal with somehow. Just look at the things with a bigger perspective. Say, you lost big tonight. So what, that happens frequently. Now, think if you are up or down for the last few years. Are you up? Great, you will get it back soon and then some more. That is a business like approach.

I have perfected the art of staying calm while gambling. Works in any form of gambling. I am very levelheaded now. Heres what you do.

First off supplies.
Keep in a drawer in your room:
1/2 oz weed
Atleast 5 dutchmasters
Carton of Cigs

Keep in Fridge:
Cold Cuts

Keep In Stock:
Fresh Rolls

So you lose your money. First, go outside and have a cigarette. Very important to do this outside. The fresh air will calm you down. Now after your cigarette roll your blunt. When blunt is rolled place on table and make sandwich using your favoirte cold cuts and roll. Put sandwhich where no one will find it. Go outside and smoke your blunt. Come inside eat your sandwich while watching a show on TV. NOT SPORTS. Anyshow. MTV HBO a movie whatever it may be. Jersey Shore works the best. Then smoke another cigarette during the first commercial break AFTER finishing your sandwhich. The good ones will always pace themselves to not finish mid commercial break. My timing is impeccable. Usually I am swallowing the last of the sandwich when the commercial break comes up.

Did this twice today. After my Kansas loss and Green Bay loss. I feel great.

The SBR point economy requires only ´light touch´ regulation me thinks.
The sharks know they are taking a risk of being stiffed.

Ghosting appears to be a serious issue but one that is hardly confined to the Points forum.

Haha good post!

Let me finish here first.

To be honest I have not looked at that much. Feel free to start a thread about it and where you think I should jump in. I have not seen any threads on anyone getting a haircut in there.
