I always check out the posts here and really respect peoples opinons on this website when it comes to picking games. But im just curious I always see people posting their picks and the amount of units attached to them, just wondering what 1 unit represents for each person.
I'm not trying to be too personal but just want to see if I am betting on average what you guys are or am I betting to much. I usually have to put atleast 100 on it for it to be worth betting for me.If the bet is not worth betting 100 on i wont bet that game. But I also do not play as many games per day like other players here. So responod if your comfortable, if not thats cool too, but just something i've been pondering. |

A unit is generally a fixed proportion of your bankroll (can be either your starting bankroll or your current adjusted bankroll) and most likely 1% of your total bankroll. So what could be a 1 unit bet of $100 for you could be $10,000 to one of the uber high rollers.
Whether you're betting too much or too little in relation to other people shouldn't be relevant (although it's interesting to know "where you are") rather how much you bet should be determined by your total available funds. If you're happy betting $100 a game and don't fancy risking more than that, then that should be the level you should stick at. The last thing you should do is to increase your bet size purely on your perception of what people claim to wager on gambling forums. It's not beyond the realms of possibility for people to stretch the truth somewhat. Last edited by tacomax; 03-14-06 at 06:06 PM.. |

Thanks for the response taco. I know all about the bankrole that stuff but was just curious what a unit is to certain people. I bet with a local and his max is 400 so my limit is between 100 and 400, and if i really like something ill deposit offshore and lay more.
I quess what the real reason i asked this ? is, I was checking the best bet page the other day and someone mentioned how he had 15 bucks on the game. Well my point is I dont want to be taking advice from someone saying there laying 10 units on a game they love when its only say 150 bucks, and to me it be 1000. By all means please do not misunderstand what im saying here and think im trying to sound like a highroller b/c im not! Just trying to get an understaning of what people are really betting when they say whatever many units. Really hope im not coming off the wrong way. |

Honestly no matter who you are following is really the picks that matter not what they are betting. In long run you are going to likely lose following almost anyones picks, there are exceptions, but good luck finding them. JMO That said some of the best money I ever made was following a prop guy who bet about 2% of what I was betting on his stuff. The guy was good, did a ton of research, but he just didn't bet much because his bankroll started small and he was happy with small wins. I really feel like the methodology is key (why are they betting the way they are). If you get 40 posters posting, some of them are going to be winners over a month and even year so records until you get in a lot of games in and are also accurate are very deceiving.

I can say one thing. Last year a unit was half of what it is now for me. I have been winning so much that my standards
have changed. So if you are a winner your unit amounts should increase with time. I am sure next year a unit will be more then than what I am betting now. Pistol Pete there will be a time where that $100 on a game you were talking about will be $250 instead ![]() |

15 a game on basketball and 30 a game on baseball. Hopefully during baseball my unit size will increase to something like 37 or so
