Coach, go to Craig's List - someone there is almost always giving away an air conditioning unit.

Or, do what I did 30 yrs ago, move the hell out of the NY/NJ area and come to Calif. (Temps in the 60s, low 70s yesterday, nr the coast, and no humidity) No, the Golden State ain't that golden any more, nor that cheap, not like it was when I first got here. And gas is more expensive than NJ, and in facct is among the highest in the country.

Soaking them for 60 seconds in cold water does the trick as well.

Just fill up a cup with water, and a couple of cubes - works like a dream.
