Question Read my reply first on Rep points first then vote. Bring back Rep Points? Yes or No?

At first I was wanted to getting rid of the rep points however I have looked at more educated reasoning to bring them back. I have voted at getting rid of the points at first but now it might make people lose interest without them.

I have read a book Freakomonics in the past and heres what they says about little simply things like this. Freakomonics was the one of the best book ever based on number facts.

1). People will work harder for Incentives-in SBR case people will not care to put good quality posts no more since there is no incentives reps. People kept coming back because of the points and reps points.

2). Production is higher when there is a award or bonus.-In SBR case good quality posts were with awarded with Rep points. Without no awards people will lose interest really fast and start writing worthless material.

3). Without Rep points people lose interest and would not care to post no more. SBR will and might lose low to moderate gamers going to other sites like the rx and etc. I believe it is a way to big of a gamble to take, it is always good to have new people interested in SBR. A lot of young people like bonuses and incentives to stay.

4). THe rep point sets SBR apart from everyone else. THe main reason I kept coming everyday to SBR is because of quality posts and nice bonus rep system.

5). Human nature says people lose interest fast without something to strive for.

On the negative side-When there was alot of bonus or incentives people managed to find ways to award them self with points and clics and abuse the system. If contolled properly it should not be a problem. There might be abuse of some posters and some people might think they are annoying but this essential to keep people attratced to SBR.

I am going to start up a new thread to bring this back.

Anyone who ever made a post with the sole intention of gaining rep points is a fool.

Rewards. It has nothing to do with rewards. It was just a way for people to say thanks for a winning pick or for making a good point. Things that are part of (and enrich) normal human interaction but that easily get lost on a forum. With that analysis you make it sound like we're a bunch of pavlov dogs hungering for appreciation.

As to the voting process. Vote first, think next.
The majority usually does.
Welcome to democracy.

datek23,

I think you have some good points, but I don't think it would be easy to design an objective rewards system that can measure much besides volume of posts.

I think an SRC (Secret Rating Committee) should be formed to have authority over doling out reputation points.

Good idea. Perhaps the people in favour of continuing the rating system can form a select group such as the Arcane Rating System Exponents (aka ARSE).

The biggest ARSEs can then rate away in private to their heart's content.
