Default Should we nix the rep points?

I thought it was fun especially the private jabs and praise but a lot of people have asked what the big green bars mean...and I'm not too sure.

Essentially, the separation between those with a lot of green squares and those with one is directly proportional to the difference in posting volume. (i.e. All of the everyday posters have comparable rep points.)

Also, downgrading posters is a tool utilized not as a means of conveying to new visitors who doesn't add to the forum or who shouldn't be trusted, but rather who got on the bad side of the man with the most posts.

    Meaningless, IMO.

    LOLOLOLOL

I'm going to give you some rep points for that, Dave.

I think Raiders invented these things. He used to always complain because he could never make the system work exactly like he wanted.

They must be meaningless because somehow I am above Bill and that's just stupid. Never once in my life have I been accused of being a reputable person.

I enjoy some things about the rep points system but, after some contemplation, I voted for nixing it. If I want to thank someone for something they posted, I can send a PM.

    Nix 'em.

It's a nice system to have but it's abused on this forum. People forming little jerk circles to bump up each others rep count and downgrade other posters, people using ghost accounts to do the same. Makes the actual ratings here pretty irrelevant.

I voted to keep 'em just because I'm something of an anarchist at heart Always got outvoted 4-1 by my sisters, so it's nothing new for me to be in the minority.

i say we nix them as well.

everyone here perty much knows who the good and bad posters are.

but when you see people start to abuse it like they do, it's not really working they way it should be.

heres a link that kinda sums it all up:

    How to spread rep points

I think this all started from my post behind closed doors, and Im glad. The system is watered down, and is being abused by some posters. There is no way for the Mods of this forum to moderate the negative stuff that people can say in the reputation comments.

So I vote to nix this system as it got out of control, especially when it only takes 10 votes to different members before you can vote for others. It was better when you had to spread it to 25+ before you can vote for somebody again.

Like Dan said, the vets of the forum will know who the good posters are. In time, but not much, the new members will see.

The system was really meaningless. But it was entertaining to see how some people got all caught up in it. I just gave positive points to everyone all the time, probably ruining the system, because everyone who was a regular poster got max green squares.

I thought they were very smart. Not for the 'status' (what status? lol), but because they helped towards creating a positive atmosphere; by preventing flames, as well as making people feel appreciated and therefore inclined to share more. An ingenious little tool that I haven't seen on other sides.

Plus a little green on the page is a nice detail.

    Oh well, progress is progress.

Bullshit. I know this is about me. Alot of people with
low post count have a good amount of rep points.

I cannot believe this forum bowed down to kdmfox.
I figured since I have contributed to this forum so much
and helped in makingthe party here bigger than it was,
    before I
    was here would mean something.

I am very dissapointed in the fact that the vote count
is 22-5. The other four people that voted my way
I commend you. I cannot believe this.

I'm not the one to suggest this, but every forum has some sort of status system. Usually this is post count, so people start adding every thought that pops in their mind. Sounds dumb, but it is reality. Maybe a good solution is to divide the rep points by the number of posts. That way it is more of a quality-based system than number-based.

I understand what IMG is saying. I don't feel the same way, but why would you want to rub a good capper the wrong way, just because he likes the feeling of being appreciated?

Anyway, it was just for fun. Didn't really work, because half the time I couldn't add rep points to people for some reason. lol

Be gracious in defeat, bro. The forum has spoken.

What does it matter? It's not about the green bars, but about the green bills.

img, this move was not all about you at all. it was a choice made by management because of the rep points abusing, nothing more nothing less to it really.

Truth is I am unappreciated here. kdmfox cries and SBR bows down to
him. SBR made a mistake by taking away the rep points.

I don't feel comfortable here anymore. I have never seen it where someone
like kdm gets picked over me. Who would do that? Honestly?

Look at the poll. The forum members have decided. Not SBR. Plain and simple.

If the vote was 22 to keep, and 6 to drop. The rep system would still be here. Period.
