Thumbs down DirecTV - I'm beyond mad......

    Fellas, I'm fuming over here...

Been a DTV subscriber for about 7 years now, and generally have had no problems, until this week...

Got back from vacation Sunday. Go to the entertainment room to turn on the Hi-def receiver, and it aint working. No signal.

I go through all of the usual troubleshooting BS, all to no avail.....

I call tech support, and go thru all the usual bs with the guy. I can tell he is running out of answers after he basically guaranteed me that it would be no problem to fix. He proceeds to ask me what kind of TV I had. I tell him Samsung plasma. He then says "oh, yea, we have had other calls like yours, it is occurring across the nation. Sounds like a crock, but I say ok, we'll see what happens in a day or so.

Well here it is Thursday night, and its still without a signal. I call them back tonight (I have been super busy since being back) and say "hey, wtf?" Not only do they want to charge me $80 for the tech to come out, but it won't be for another week, i tell the girl this is bs and not acceptable, but she says she can do nothing.

Guys, I'm pissed here. Im a low maintenance customer who never bitches about anything, but being without this TV in the Entertainment room for 2 weeks is a joke. My family room TV with the normal receiver works, but I don't hang out in that part of the house. I'm about ready to call them back and pitch a fit.

    Anybody else had this problem?

    That sucks sir.

I take it that they had you do both a hard and soft reboot? If so then we can troubleshoot it here in this thread and save you the $80 if need be.

Dude you are out of line here.

DTV is like any other appointment, they don't service you for free, they won't charge you an equipment fee if it's a problem with your box, however you're paying for them to come out there, and sometimes they're pretty booked up so waiting a few days is the norm..

FWIW I pay a $4.99/mo. protection plan so I'm covered for trips like these..

Crazy, being without for 2 weeks is completely unacceptable, especially when one of their peiople gave me a bullshit answer to begin with. I hear ya as far as the girl on the phone goes, and I didn't give it to her real bad because of this. But I'm sorry 2 weeks aint cutting it for a non-bitching 7 year subscriber.

2 weeks for a technical issue is ridiculous, usually when I'd have an issue (and I live in NY in busy area), it's within that week.. When I waited to have them come install my slim-line HD dish and receiver, I was on a 5 week HD access waiting list... So I think technical issues related to HD stuff may just run longer than normal kinks, EVERYONE wants or has issues with HD now, it's the big thing..

So you just can't power it up? That's odd, I'd try unplugging it completely from itself, TV, wall outlet etc and leaving it that way for a couple of minutes and trying again.

sounds like your locked in hibernate mode. Just unplug your receiver for like 5 minutes (aka hard reboot), and it should work for you sir.

we have a local cooperative. They show up to there appointments within 15minutes of there timeframe. You call them, you get someone, you get something usually that next day or following business day after that.

They are unreal on service, only downfall right now is they don't have HD. But you know what your bill is, there is no hidden fee's, and no sliding or special offers. You pay, you get service.

I've had cable rates jump on me so often, I cancel I get a new deal to come back yada yada yada. Figured out its just cheaper to go with them and stop playing pingpong. Also, Dtv and all other satalites in our area seem to have problems pulling signals. In bad weather or high winds it goes out.

To top it all off those greedy pricks will still bill you the full amount for your package even though you were down for two weeks.

They are saying it is because of your Samsung Plasma? Sorry, but that is just laughable.

    That totally sucks sir.

So your stuck in one of those markets then. I always thought it was only MAsn that didn't reach a deal to have those games broadcast, but I guess not.

    :
I had the same problem and I have a sony HD latest model

it seems to me if you are not subscribed to their protection plan $5.99 a month they will send you weak signal until you subscribe

I had so many problems for about 7-10 days, after I subscribed to their bs prot plan all is back to normal.

Only reason I switched to Directv is because they have a sheit load more HD channels then my Cable company, and they are geared more towards sports then my Cable company.

    Default Shop around!

As long as your lease agreement is fulfilled, tell them you might be switching to Dish Network if the problem isn't resolved promptly and for free.Check Dish's new customer signup promotions first and you might have reason to change to them.

I shop around for every kind of utility.I have switched telephone providers so many times I lost count. They all offer you at least $100 to come back to them and they all cost the same so it's an easy $100 for 20 minutes of your time.

I bought an HDTV awhile back and Dish jerked me around for putting up a new dish and getting a new receiver so I went with Directv.I was with Directv, went to Dish, then back to Directv.

Bg i went thru a similar incident. guy tried to push that bogus service plan on me these thieves are trying to push. When the bill came in with the 80 fee I called them up steaming and told them I was going back to cable. The fee was waved. CC companies do the same thing with this late payment shit. You got to work them. They want the customer. Just hope you don't get some kid on the phone who doesn't give a shit. Then ask for a supervisor. If the kid won't get you one hang up and try someone else.

Very true, right now cox offers a very good deal if you switch from directv to cox. Good eanough that you dont have to worry about breaking your 1-2 years contract with directv

I have had directv for 9 years now. I don't know why people still would rather have cable. I subscribe to every single sports package that is offered and I must say they are a pain to deal with if you have a problem. I have had minor problems off and on and the tech people on the phone are rude and not helpful at all. At least that is my experience. I have had the signal go down probably 4 times in the 9 years but I reset it and it comes right back.
