    Default Wager Tallies?

I'm curious, has anyone been tallying the results of posters' picks over the course of the season?

Not that I know of Ganch. We just do a recap in each of the Best Bets threads. Im not sure if anyone here has kept a record of everyones picks or not.

I was trying to get the convention going of posting a cumulative record at the bottom of each day's pick. It wasn't hard to do as I kept them on a document and just updated it every time I posted. The idea never caught on and I got busy and stopped posting picks. Still think it would be a best practices kind of thing, though.

I also like the idea of SBR setting up some Wagerline-like software that would allow each poster to enter his picks and have them tracked. That way anybody in the mid-fifties after 100 picks would have some credibility, and anyone who didn't could change his posting name and try again.

I recently started posting a play a day in the wagerline.com survivor contest, under DarkHorse21. Record so far 19-11. The reason I mention it is that the record for dogs is 9-1. In case you need a dog once in a while.

    1. I Am Not a Tout.

More fun for me if my observations and reasoning spark ideas and feedback from the talented regulars here. That's the "following" I'd like to have.

    2. I am willing to calculate my own posted "plays" -- but sorry, not willing to do it for all of these guys.

    3. Since my first post on Feb 8 unit picks are:
    +8.84 units.

Surely there must be some kind of wager tracker where everyone can input their picks and whoever can grade them?

You don't want the records out there. Before you know it you attract a whole swarm of gold diggers that flood the place. Much better to stay:

I think the significantly bigger worry is that without impartially overseen and readily auditable picks and results, attention whores eager to make a name for themselves will grossly (although perhaps inadvertently) distort their own records.

I agree with your assessment but I'm not sure we're trying to create a tout factory here. The picks come with personality and they're free. I suppose that means everybody who is putting them out there can do so in whatever package they choose. If there were some sort of meaningful competition to determine capability then obviously a more precise and universal system should be established.

How often are records mentioned here, other than for a single night?

How likely are people to distort their record withour risking their credibility?

There are very good cappers here. If you draw attention to them, and even one record goes off the scale for a while, you would be surprised how quickly the online betting community will catch on to that. Few things are more frustrating than a nice little forum being invaded by newbies. They will take over. When that happens the old group, having lost their little hideout, slowly leaves. Seen it before.

I don't get the comment about it being a tout factory. Is anybody seriously going to start charging for their picks, let alone get customers, for having a warm season on a posting board?

The way I see it is that this is an educational site, and gambling, even when it's done with all reason, is in part a fantasy activity. So to have monitored picks where it became clear to all just how hard it is to hit 55% over 100 picks would be educational--perhaps most of all to those who think they bop along at least sixty.

I guess the other side of the argument would be that this is an entertainment site. It's fun to get high-fives when you win and sympathy when you lose. It's good clean solidarity. If a lot of us make the error of thinking we're better than we are then that's the nature of the beast and shutting down the fun by policing the numbers isn't worth the trouble. Especially if it would keep regular posters from soldiering on.

As I say, I'm more in the first camp. But I can see from the SBR business perspective there are two sides.

Guys I think I have been thinking and I have came to the conclussion
that it would not be a good idea because of people likely to post inaccurate
unit amounts to catch up with whoever is in front or someone they do not
like. Agree?? Please let me know if you agree?

i disagree IMG, i think it's a good idea. i thought of all people you would love this idea with the numbers you have been putting up this year.

    Two solutions:

    1. Cap the maximum unit amount at 10 (anything over that is ridiculous and either poor money management or a desparate scream for attention).
    2. Post the W/L with +/- units (should be done anyways, IMO)

How do you figure? Your biggest play has been 9 units, unless I am missing something.

In football, you would say things like 49 units, but I think that was before anyone gave you serious respect. Since then, you've been going between 1 and 5 units almost every day.
A lot of people would accuse you of being an attention whore, but I don't have a problem with what you do. Don't take it the wrong way bud.

I just think that wager tracking would be a very good addition to the forum so that the best cappers can be easily seen rather than it being a case of whoever shouts loudest is automatically the best. Season picks are tracked on other forums - it would be a very good idea for SBR to do this as well.

And a lot of other people think the same way as well.

When I did this last year 10 was the max play. I had this poster who would have three plays like this: New York -160 (80 units)
    Houston -130 (27 units)
    LA -200 (35 units)

I tried explaining that he can't risk more than he had. The guy never got it and still posted shit like that. I would just cap his plays out at 10 units.

Cap and floor the units at 1.0. No reason to muddy the water.
