Zenyatta ever race in the cold?

Gonna be sunny (hopefully), but the temp at Churchill on sat during the Classic will be around 45 degrees. Has Zenyatta ever raced in the cold? And could the cold effect her?

I would be more worried that he has only won 3x on non poly tracks.

  4. #4

yes probably she ran but cold is not so important. cold doesn't effect.
    - if it is very hot, this will be a problem for oaks but we talk about cold.
-or if it is rain dirt turns to mud.horses performance may chance if it is rainy (this is not true about polytrack because it doesn't turn to mud)

generally horses train at 5.00-6.00 AM some of them 4.30AM

I hope he doesn't sit too far back, because he may not make it against this field.
I'm leaning toward Lookin at Lucky, how about you Joey?

well, its early yet and im looking at quality road myself to beat zenyetta at the wire. I think smith will have her coming but will end up a little short. If the track is not sloppy, i think quality road goes the whole mile and quarter.

    Maybe quality road, zenyetta, musketman,
also might throw the jap horse in there because we dont know much about this guy and a few years back, they had a supposed monster that was gonna take the Belmont and he was a dead horse, but this one they are real quiet about and may want some revenge this year. You never know. I decide on my picks probaly thursday. Good luck

She will warm up a little bit longer if it's cold. Horses are not bothered by 45 degree weather.

I think most horses greatly prefer 45 degrees to 90 degrees.

  10. #10

Actually, the 45 degree temp. will help her.
Horses have more energy and simply feel better.
    No question about it.

Good call with the jap horse, I'm going to look into that. The other jap horse you are talking about was called Casino Drive if my memory serves me right, and at that time some pretty sharp guys from the east coast were touting that horse to me. GL, should be a great weekend.

I also agree Zenyetta comes up short.

  13. #13

Tizway one of the favorites to win the dirt mile went down to japan last year and got romped by espoir city, then tizway came back two races later and lost by 3 lengths to quality road and musket man. Obviously the japan horse has to like it here but he def has the class to give these horses a good run for there money.

Lets go Zenyatta I hope everyone bets against her let the odds get better for me to bet on her.. Everyone keeps says she will come up short in the classic they also said that last year the only difference last year they said she could beat the boys but now everyone knows she can.. She will face some great horses this year as she did last year (Rip Van Winkle the horse who everyone was on last year who didnt even hit the board)...Regardless of if she wins or loses she had a great career and has nothing left to prove...Lets go Z

When horses leave California they've not had a great track record going East. Giacomo was an exception..but he was 50-1 at post. I would be more concerned with her running on "dirt" than anything else. Zenyatta has really run against suspect fields for the most part, and she'll need to bring her A game Saturday. If they try and sit back and circle the field she will come up short.

i had 500 to win on sakhee back in the 01 classic when tiznow came back on the inside and won after sakhee had passed him.

I'm really hoping nothing bad happens. Going to be sad if another Ruffian were to go down.

The weather won't stop her, especially cold. Horses don't mind cold, its the heat that they can't stand.

I completely agree with you. I don't have to bet the race, I just want to see the all time great in her last race.

A horse as physically huge as Zenyatta should love the cooler weather. It may mean she'll do a little more stretching/dancing before the race which I hope the network shows. Her pre race warm up is very entertaining.

I do not know about cold wearther.. More worried abount damp rainy weather...if that rain on friday hangs around Saturday, how is she going to handle mud being thrown in her face..... Mother Nature can be mean this time of year.

Personally, finishing a race career undefeated will give this racing industry a BIG boost that it needs really bad.

Good Luck and may the Racing God give them all a safe race.

Zenyatta is set up perfectly for this race. There is plenty of early speed, CD has a long stretch and usually plays well for closers.

If the race were on a speed track like Monmouth, Gulfstream or Lone Star, she'd be in trouble.

I'm not playing much on this race unless I'm way ahead (unlikely). I like the favorites with Musket Man maybe to hit the board.

    Zenyatta
    Blame
    Musket Man
    Quality Road

Looking at Lucky should be tough here, but I threw him out. He only ran two times since the Preakness and didn't prep against older so I'll take a stand against.

BOYS I DIDNT BET THE RACE BUT I WAS ROOTING REAL HARD FOR ZENYATTA I THINK MIKE SMITH F-CKED UP THE RACE BY BEING SO FAR BEHIND EARLY EVEN THE ANNOUNCERS ON ESPN AFTER THE RACE SAID HE COULD HAVE BEEN CLOSER EARLY IT WASNT THE HIRSES FAULT.IT WAS AN EXCITING FINISH BUT THE WRONG HORSE WON TODAY.

MIKE SMITH HALL OF FAME JOCKEY MY ARSE GARY STEVENS WOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE WINNERS CIRCLE TODAY ON ZENYATTA

I agree with you, Blame had a clean ride through and Zenyatta found herself having to cut to the outside to find a path. Ten yards more and she would have had it...still a very impressive ride...she sure is a special horse

  34. #34

She still is one of the best in my opinion... Hope she continues to run!

  35. #35

Smith always does that, Zenyatta always breaks slow (though she broke really slow today) so I don't think that was a problem. She seemed much more content back there today than she was last year when Mine that Bird kept her company. This race set up the same way half of her wins had, only difference was this wasn't Switch or St Trinians, Blame is a beast..also, she seems to know where the wire is at home (Hollywood, Del Mar) but seemed confused today..like the wire came up too short. Still, if Smith asks her to go earlier, she probly wins the race.
