Default Only 27% of Americans have a passport

That means that 73% of Americans are LOSERS.

    That's all, carry on.

US is the best country in the world. No need to visit all the other losers around the globe.

about 7% of sbr posters have passports that number may be a little high. Pavy visiting and living like locals in other far away lands is what makes America great at least for me we take alot of things for granted.

There ya go, way to be isolationist. Do yourself a favor, get a passport, and go visit Europe. If you don't know where you want to go I'll suggest Barcelona, Paris, and Rome. Those are three nice spots to hit.

I guess that you're one of the 73% then...

I'm actually surprised that more than a quarter of Americans do have passports. Most working class people can't afford a European vacation so unless it is your job or something behind leaving the country, most people stay right in the USA. I'm not saying it is good or bad one way or the other, just surprised.

60-70% of Australians have a passport (couldn't find a concrete statistic between the two numbers).
70% of Europeans have a passport.
53% of Canadians have a passport.
70% of the Irish have a passport.
27% of Americans have a passport.

That's just sad for us gringos.

People come to the US and need passports but we don't need passports. What the heck am I gonna do in a third world country with a passport?

Well maybe not so sad, but just factual. The US has a tendency to run a trade deficit too. More is coming in than out. There is massive investment in the US so naturally the focus of the population will be inside the country. ALSO, Out of that 73% that do not have passports, how many have just let their passport expire? Or maybe they are too old to travel but had a passport earlier in life. There are many reasons one might not have a passport at the moment. You statistic does not imply that only 27% of people living in the US have traveled outside of the country.

Very true. Only 1.5% of Chinese have a passport. Americans come third in the number of international departures, behind Germany and the United Kingdom.

I dunno, there's an entire world out there, with beautiful things to see, and the majority of Americans don't have enough of a desire to do so.

Everyone should experience more than the country they were born in. I could not imagine living in one place and never seeing anything else.

with TV and travellogs all over the tube this reduces the actual need to see these wonders, which actually some of them are quite disappointing in IMHO

Because everybody is trying to come HERE.

I've traveled extensively and out of all the places I've been I would be happy in the Dominican Republic (a "third world country). It comes to cost vs. happiness. You can live a 200,000 dollar lifestyle there for about 35,000.
