Default Elite XC: Saturday Night Fights

It's going to be the first time that an MMA event is broadcasted live on national television...

Kimbo Slice vs. James "Colossus" Thompson
"Ruthless" Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith (for middleweight title)
Gina "Conviction" Carrano vs. Kaitin Young
Phil Baroni vs. Murilo "Ninja" Rua
    Brett Rogers vs. Jon Murphy

It's at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Anyone from SBR going?

Btw, would anyone like to see more news/write-ups in the MMA Section here? I'm sure I could hook it up. Maybe even do a live writeup on this event, or possibly interviews with some of the fighters. Let me know.

Moses! You going to Vegas bro? Us 'real' people can get together, take our medicine, and chill over at the Wynn or the Mirage watching some games. Should be a good time if we keep away from the immature people.

ChuteBoxe - I'd love to see more stuff. I covered Pride in Japan a few years ago and have always loved MMA - I just grew up boxing and doing Muay Thai, not learning how to sprawl or do a Kimura, etc.

Wow, really? That's incredible. I honestly had one chance to go to a Pride event, and couldn't make it due to work obligations, but to this day I regret not telling my job to shove it. If you don't mind me asking, what was your job over there? Are you a journalist? Btw, boxing was my first love as well, then I started doing Muay Thai, and then I finally learned Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Sprawling is easy, I could teach you that in 5 minutes. If you go to the bash that SBR is having in Vegas, I could definitely show you some tricks.

Yes, I'm a journalist - a photojournalist. Pride was hot and I'm glad I got to go to a couple of their shows. I always preferred Pride to UFC. When I was younger I boxed, trained in the gyms with a couple of good pros, trained in Muay Thai in Thailand, Holland, and actually trained for a while in Shoot Boxing and some Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. I'm 46 and honestly, don't feel like training on a daily basis anymore - my body can't take it and if you know anything about fighting, you know that most of the time it's not the actual fight that takes its toll, it's the rigors of daily training. I won't be coming to Vegas anytime soon...got too much stuff going on here in Asia and I'm quite comfortable - no need to take the dreaded 25 hour flight back to then US.

thats great smallon about the job with pride.

I worked as a trainer for awhile and even training wrestlers is tougher as you get older.sounds like the perfect job,to be around the fight game but not having to live with injuries

    cheers

Yep. Remember I told you I go to a lot of them. I am actually getting sick of them. I have been to so many it has lost its excitement.

yeah cant wait for this , I always like Free MMA , ELITE XC needs big ratings in there first couple of shows , or they could go BK buy the end of the year.

BTW Murilo "Ninja" Rua is off the card from injury , Joey Villasonyora steps in , should be great fights.

Thanks for pointing that out bud, I copied the fights from CBS' press release and totally forgot about the foot injury. It's a shame, Rua's a great fighter, and probably would've been able to submit Baroni. Nevertheless, Villasenor is a humble guy, an excellent competitor, and I personally wouldn't mind seeing him beating the "NY Bigmouth" Phil Baroni. Even if, Villasenor really said that east coast fighters can't fight, Baroni is way too cocky for his own good, and never steps up in big fights. You're 100% right about EliteXC, they put a lot of money on the line this year, and if they can't draw a high audience this year in the states, Gary Shaw is going to lose a lot of the money he made from his boxing promoter days.

What do you all think of the lineup? Lawler should be good. Kimbo seems like a joke. I would love to see a strong group compete with UFC, but I am not sure this card will show MMA in the best light.

Are there prices on Kimbo out there? If any of these matches are fixed it's this one IMO.

If Kimbo and Gina were to both lose wouldn't Elite basically be toast? Even American Gladiators would feel it in the wallet.

yes thats why I'm parlaying them both.

    Kimbo has knockout power

Chick needs the win badly to launch her career into hollywood. She's gotta prove it in the ring first.

Waiting for odds to come up myself. No way in hell Thompson can beat Kimbo. No way. He couldn't even beat Butterbean. Put your kid's college fund on this one.

Yeah they picked the perfect patsy for Kimbo to beat. Thompson is a clown. He always comes charging out like a madman and throws bombs but has no chin and gets knocked out. My only question is whether Kimbo beats him faster then Aleksander Emelianenko beat him.

You might be dead on the nuts immortality -

Thompson comes storming like an SOB - kimbo
lands one shot to the head and its lights out.

Should be great card , dont like that many fights for betting . Brett Rogers is good bet .
Scott Smith is a decent underdog bet at +265 ( since this fight is going to be a brawl)
And theres no way i could take James "glass jaw" Thompson.
Cant wait for more MMA this weekend with ELITE XC on Sat and WEC on Sunday .

I'm confident in laying big money on Kimbo and Carano. There's always lucky punches/submissions, but these are probably 2 of the easiest plays of the year.

supposively the last time kimbo lost it was to a Boston PD officer. Officer was suspended for two weeks though. Officer is not answering any questions about MMA, referring everyone to his agent. Its expected they will rematch within 1 year.

Officers can get time off for Boxing, but not MMA?

Kimbo losing to that guy can be found on Youtube. If we are talking about
the same fight - Kimbo claims that the guy didn't follow the pre-determined
rules that they had agreed upon for the fight.
