If you don't mind living in Texas, you can probably buy a mini-mansion with a million over there. I know good amount of folks in the LA area, some making 8k a mouth that lives in a one bed studio. That goes to tell you how damn expensive it is to live in SoCaL.

4 million for a house on pacific in marina del rey. the 11 million dollar house near the canal just sold recently...party there every other night. got the pool with glass bottom on the rooftop...really cool.
