Gonna be buying a sub. Are the JL W7's still the shit or is there something better out now? IVe been out of the loop for a couple years. Thinking about a JL sub and amp. I listen to some rap but mostly rock, I want something that is gonna sound good more than just pounding bass. I used to like Image Dynamics subs but I heard they were bought out and not as good of quality as they used to be.

i have a 12" jl w7...NASTY!!! pair it w/ a jl 1000/1 and you will be satisfied 100%...itll break pockets though...im sure pairing 2 w6's or w3's w/ a 500/1 in an expedition would get the job done too for damn near half the price

I was looking at a pair of w3's too. Those W7s are sick though, definetly worth the extra money think.

yeah...its a power hog though...i have a 500/1 hooked up to mine in a custom ported box and its still getting underpowered...are you trying to get a pair of w7's or what? im sure one 12 or 13 1/2 would be just fine in a SUV w/ a 1000/1 pushing it...itd be deafening w/ two in there!

Quebb was thinking of going with 1 12w7 and the 1000/1. I dont want to have to upgrade the electrical system any. shouldnt be a problem, should it?

i mean...just depends on the alternator...im not sure what the factory alternators push in 05 expos...but a jl 1000/1 is a monster and is definitely a power hog...i think my alternator pushes 190 amps and is fine w/ my 500/1...i guess it wouldnt hurt to hook it up and see how the electrical system works, but if you dont have a strong alternator id def look into custom HO alternators (probably 500 tops) which isnt much when you are dropping 2-2.5k on the sub/box/amp...id also look into a yellow top too w/ that kinda power
