    "Idiocracy"... are we already there?

If the founding fathers visited us today, would they think that we're already at the point that was portrayed in "Idiocracy"?

Mike Judge has seen the future, and it ain't pretty.
It's horribly, terribly, frighteningly funny---but it ain't pretty.

After seven years of Dubya, perhaps America has become inured to the dumbing down of all aspects of it's culture. There's certainly enough evidence to prove that's the case---i.e. hey, let's all vote for our American Idol and then tune into Dancing With The Stars!

But Judge, the brilliant mind behind Hank Hill, Beavis/Butthead and the post-modern classic Office Space, pulls no punches here and draws a future that is, sadly, not as far removed from reality as we might wish it were. The president is a 'Smackdown' champion--can you say 'Ahhnold?'--and Carls Jr. sponsors all aspects of fast food life in America.

Ummm--are we sure this shouldnt be categorized in the documentary category?

Satire is a rapidly dying artform---and the fact that this movie went straight into the void rather than topping the box office charts is further proof that, laugh as we might at their exploits, K-Fed and Britney are our canaries in the coal mine and, as the saying goes, the future 'aint what it used to be.'

    Dude.

Contrary to what most people think, this is not a comedy. It is instead a horror flick cleverly disguised as a comedy, done by that genius of stupidity who gave the world Beavis & Butthead.

This may confuse people but "horror" doesn't even really grasp it. Instead it is a prophetic vision of the future where the weak and stupid have propagated en masse, yielding a world helpless to extract itself from even it's most basic problems.

If ever there was a good argument for eugenics, it can be found here.

You probably think I'm being facetious, but I am not. Watch it to laugh, then cry about it's overwhelming bleakness later.

Butterfly Effect - Very different and thought provoking - unreal movie

Mothman Prophecies - cool ass movie - based on real story

Shawshank Redemption - A must see for any living person - Possibly the best movie of all time

I like movies that are different and make you think about things. I dont really like the run of the mill, shoot em up action movie. They are boring to me. I loved the Matrix though but I dont put that in the action movie category.

Also American Beauty. I assume everyone has seen this though. One of the best movies I've ever seen and everyone else says the same thing.

Of movies from the last year or so, There Will Be Blood is, in my opinion, the best film in the last decade. Absolutely fantastic -- literally the modern day Citizen Kane. Blows No Country out of the water.

If you're into foreign film, I can recommend quite a bit.

Guys he didn't ask for classics, no need to recommend movies like Shawshank etc.

Pick up "Running Scared", good popcorn flick.. It's a guy movie, violence, guns, deception, drugs..

Before I opened the thread, I had 3 movies in mind. Then I read that mo listed all of them, lol. So, I'll go a little newer...

Street Kings was suprisingly good, it's an action flick based on corruption inside the LAPD.

88 Minutes is a mystery/action movie with Al Pacino, that keeps ya guessing until the end.

John Rambo...If you liked the originals, this one won't dissapoint. Decent story line, but more action, IMO.
