Default Las Vegas Really Sucks These Days

I used to go to Las Vegas back in the 80s and 90s and thought the place was great. Sure you'd lose a few bucks at the tables, but it seemed to have a charm about it, and felt "customer friendly."

Now it's just a tawdry money gouging tourist trap, starting with the "tunnel rat" taxi drivers and continuing to such things as the ridiculous mark up on bottled water at Walgreens. Wanna gamble? Better hit the ATMs early and often for that 6/5 blackjack.

I don't think I will be going back there. Maybe I'll try Reno or the Gulf Coast.

The local casinos are more "customer friendly". Basically any casino outside the strip area. I hardly visit the strip.

If you are tired of new Vegas, stay in old vegas. They really haven't done much to upgrade anything.

    Default Try Laughlin.

Las Vegas is a living and breathing and ever changing hotbed for bargains, deals and comps etc.I totally agree that the atmosphere has changed for the worse but it's gotten so big that you can always find what you are looking for staying away from the crap you don't like. What was good and generous the last time you visited might suck and what sucked last time might be good.

I'm a bargain hunter and the only reason why I go to Vegas is because it's cheaper to spend 4 nights in Vegas than it is in some fancy, schmantzy, yuppie tourist bungelow for a night an hour away from where I live.

You really have to be a good scout researching your trip ahead of time online and you will be rewarded.I talk to people that go first class staying at places like Wynn's or The Balagio and they come back home broke and complaining how little fun they had. Then I will talk to people who bought a last minute plane ticket for under $200 on www.allegiantair.com ,paid $23 a night through www.i4vegas.com to stay downtown and used coupons for everything and they had a blast.Ever buy an american casino guide for year 2008?Lots of good deals there.Same goes for Googling a guy named Anthony Curtis who's big in the Vegas-budget vacation scene where you can get his coupons.Go to the Fremont Experience kiosk on Fremont Street and get a great 2-1 everything coupon book there.

Default Anyone ever hit Mahoney's 2 properties in North Vegas?

The Opera House Casino and ????the other bigger place up there is called Mahoney's?They used to give all new card holders ''and old ones too because I got it 3 years''a bunch of money but you were supposed to run it through the machines first.Hell,no one was watching and you could take it if you wanted to.I didn't though and twice I hit some big jackpot on nickel keno.I was with my old man and we felt a little unsafe walking between the 2 Mahoney properties which is about 2/3 of a mile at mid day. It's a little like Sanford and Son up in North Las Vegas Boulevard. To make matters worse, every few weeks on COPS,they do a segment from right there.
