Default Big Brown's trainer Bennie Stutts proclaimed he was betting 100K on his horse.Dumb!

Bennie Stutts the trainer of Big Brown up until 10 years ago was a down on his luck drug addict sleeping in stalls at Belmont Park because he was homeless. His lifestyle even brought on a burglary at his residence where one of his kids was murdered in a bedroom next to where him and his wife were sleeping.

The guy is a character and adds spice to the dry personality racing industry and is not your typical trainer that walks the straight and narrow who minces their words where they keep low profiles.Stutts is a blowhard-foghorn leghorn type that gets on the more reserved trainers nerves.

So in the past week before the derby he was holding press conferences and interviews saying that Big Brown was unbeatable and he was going to bet 100K on him. What an idiot!!!!Not for bragging about his horse so much but for advertising to the world he was betting 100K on the horse. Why not just keep it quiet and spread the bets around in small amounts where family members buy and cash them where you can leave the IRS out of it and not have to pay taxes on the winnings!!!The guy is a total blathering idiot but you got to like him and feel good that a loser can reach the top.

The IRS would not tax the winnings unless it got all split up into trifectas and such.

Bennie is probably pushing 50?Here is my prediction on the rest of Bennie's life.He will win the triple crown and be in a state of euphoria and the celebrating will begin. He will have the bucks to buy the good stuff and in about two years he will be so wasted all the time that no owner will send him a horse to train.By the time he's 78 he will still have to be working mucking stalls because all of his money and family will be gone.He will be latching on to all the kids of horse people in the backstretch telling them stories for hours about him and Big Brown. He will have pints hidden all over the backstretch. He will be Mr.Bojangles!

I am sure you skeptical degenerates out there will not believe this; however not only did he bet, I know someone who knows him and he is a big time gambler.

He actually bet north of $100k and it is believe to be closer to $200k.

This guy is a recovering drug addict and has totally turned his life around. Good for him!

Recovering drug addicts need to consider the risk of becoming a future gambling addict. One thing can certatinly lead to another. That said, nice hit for him, whether he bet it or not. Lets hope he doesn't chase the high of a Derby win, as nothing will ever match it.

Dutrow is a big bettor but not a good payer. He pays when he feels like it and it is always a long drawn out process. Those who hang around him do the same as well. He is a poster child for posting up.Would book him all day long if he posts up and gets his money from mom.

Big Brown's trainer is Dick Dutrow.

Stutts trained another horse in the race, Smooth Air, who failed to hit the board.

Many of the big time trainers (Stutts in not one of them, Dutrow is) do bet. As they are all millionaires, the money they can realize betting (offshore or in Vegas, if straight betting) does not get hit by the taxman.

The late Charlie Whittingham did not bet, but his stable help would.

Default Sorry for the Stutts error

Thanks for calling me on Stutts being the trainer when I goofed.I was looking up the breeder who are a bunch of brothers not too far from me in Fergus Falls,Minnesota who bred Big Brown and I copied down another trainer ''Stutts'' they have connections with instead of Dutrow.
