Default Keys to take away from the movie "21"

Went and saw this last night. I thought it was a sweet movie if you're a college guy gambling.

I thought I'd share some good thoughts I thought this movie really raised for the "true" gambler like us on SBR.

    1. Don't let your emotions get the best of you.

We all know when we are going out on a limb with a bet. Granted every bet placed it susceptable to a lose don't bet unless you have investigated the teams or prop and fully understand your odds.

Sometimes you get to wrapped up with the emotions from winning you think more about that than the losses. Haven't any of you placed a bet a bit over your limits because you thought too much about the payout instead of what would happen if we loose it?

Bet what you have; Bet what you can loose.

    2. House always wins

I've seen and heard too many people win and kept betting when they should have taken a break, walk away grab a drink, enjoy your "high"; instead, they didn't take there winnings and bet it all away.

The house always wins. The trick is knowing when to stop and come back when it's "hot".

    3. Don't bet what you can't loose

In the movie the kid let his emotions get the best of him and bet money he couldn't afford to loose and had to pay back his teacher.

If you are playing with money you can't loose don't play. If you are asking people to borrow money, chasing losses, or using credit to gamble then you really need to reconsider your gambling habits and possible "gambling addiction".

    4. Have fun

Myself included thought that I could make "tons" on sportsbetting. Well, granted I've made plenty to buy new clubs, take trips, and whatever, I only play to have fun.

Watching a game with 20 bucks on it is just as exciting with a 1,000 on it. How so? 20 bucks could be a 1,000 to another.

Have fun! If you find yourself gambling for other reasons than fun and a form on entertainment i'd strongly ask you to reconsider why you are doing it. Bored? Using it as a form of release? Problems?

Have fun, enjoy the game, and gamble responsibly.

Hope you all liked that; I took that when I walked away from the movie 21. And no, I'm not soliciting the movie.

P.S. Next place I'm going is Vegas!

I haven't seen the movie yet but the book was pretty good... I heard the film version is very liberal with the facts though but it sounds like it probably isn't too bad of movie if you can get past that....

The main key point to take away from this movie is: "Never go see hollywood gambling movies"

Are there any card counting groups like that anymore?

I think with all the new measures casinos employ (only dealing 3/4 of deck, cards facedown on single deck, etc.) it'll be really difficult to duplicate what they did.

The one thing I never understood about that movie was the "arms folded behind the chair" thing. Could they have made it any more obvious that something was up.
Haven't read the book to see how things actually went down but I am guessing that the majority of this movie is made up.
Plus, not sure what you guys thought about it but I thought the ending was horrible

If you guys want me to tell Picoman what the ending was let me know. I don't want to put the ending here and then someone reads it and gets mad because it ruined the movie for them

the female main character is no where as hot as the movie. she is an enginner at MIT...so you can imagine what she looks like.

Well this is as good a thread as any for my first post:

Dagger, There are still many teams playing all over the world. Some are a very loose group of players and others are very well heeled and organized. The try outs alone will have you sweating your nuts off. Also be prepared to take a polygraph after each session of play. These sessions can be VERY TEDIOUS. It's worse than a job. I don't think it's a good choice for people that like to gamble. Patience is usally the thing that kills even the most talented players.

As far as the movie, I haven't seen it yet. So I can't comment yet. From what I heard though, it sounds like it will be out on DVD sooner than later.

I'll make sure not to bet what I can't loose.

Keys to take away from this thread: Oddsmaker is a moron and 21 is a stupid movie.
