Default Identity If You Use Another Wireless Signal??

Say I bring my laptop to a remote location and connect onto like a library free wireless connection from the parking lot, is there anyway they could trace it to my laptop??

Wireless connections are always unsecure. If you connect to one, chances are nothing will happen to you or your data but if there happens to be someone in the vicinity that knows what they are doing then they could access your computer.
As far as a website knowing who is connecting, it will show the library's ip address on the server and they could figure out a location based on that but I don't believe they could trace it to your individual laptop

Actually I will add a bit to that, wireless connections aren't always unsecure. You can get a password and secure it. I was just talking about those types that are in a library

    .

Interesting question. If you do everything on the UP & UP, everything is fine, but if you cause trouble, etc., your Wireless Card "MAC Address" will give it away. That is, if you use the same wireless card.

Only way to track u down would be if the Wireless is Secure ... and in order for it to be ... u need a username/password ... and I dont think a library would do this.

So no, they would not be able to trace you ....

IF ur trying to scam or whatever locate several places close enough that offer wireless connection and use them for a period of 30-40 mins each .... rotate so they dont know how to trace you
