Does anyone know if it's possible with this message board software, or with maybe an addon, to do a site-wide monthly ghost check? Every IP. Period. Like MLB does with steroids. They want to clean up the league, we want to clean up the board.

1 Strike: Warning.
2 Strikes: 60 Day acct suspenion.
3 Strikes: Acct Termination and IP Ban.

I honestly think it would cut down on the garbage posts, and kiddie nonsense. So if anyone cares to back me up in signing this, I'm sure we could cut down on at least some of the garbage here. We have a strong business model, great management, and excellent handicappers. Let's not have some 10 year olds ruin the credibility of this site, and tarnish our hard work in handicapping, by creating garbage threads on the main part of the site, and talking to themselves. You have to admit, it has scared away some veteran cappers. It will also allow the mods to concentrate on better things like contests, grading best bets, etc... The things that we enjoy about this site. Instead of constantly moving immature posts to private zone.

i dont get why getting rid of ghosts would improve the board. i think the # of ghosts ppl think are out there is way overestimated anyways

Are you serious? You don't think people talking back and forth to each other about useless garbage unrelated to the board, or even bragging about each other, doesn't bring down any site? I agree with you on the amount of ghosts however, in my opinion it's a select few who constantly do it.

There are ghosts known by the administrators, so it would be pointless to integrate this unless the guys decided to police the members from doing it. It should be all are gone or none.

Their issue, whether they say it or not, is how one uses a ghost versus someone actually having one. If it's one that isn't out to cause a bunch of trouble, they don't care. If it's one made with an agenda of going after them or other posters, then they'll suspend it if it comes to their attention.

Yeah, I understand that bud. I'm just saying if the veterans get together and say enough is enough, and show that there's enough support to stop it, hopefully it will cut down on the useless threads, and stop all the bitching already about why SBR supposedly sucks lately. I mean, what's the worst that can happen if you sign it? They don't do anything? In my honest opinion, anyone who won't sign it, has another acct.

You have more faith in them than I do. They are good guys but I don't see them taking the same measures to stop ghosting as they would for the BTP contest. I don't think they care all that much, in part because with IP maskers it'd be virtually impossible to catch them all.

I also think it's a double standard that they have direct knowledge of some ghosts. It should be OK for everyone or not for anyone.

That being said I'll sign it.

I have faith in the fact that if SBR sees overwhelming support behind an issue, they will listen to their public. Bill has always proved to me that he is a stand-up guy in that aspect, along with many others.

However, if the only thing this thread does, is prove that there's not enough support behind this issue, and SBR need not waste their time...Then the constant complaining, and bitching, by some of the posters here should come to an end. Also, it should finally put this topic at least, to rest once and for all. That's enough for me.

Hey ... you may be right ... you may well be in possession of evidence to which we're not privy. If so, please do share it with us, and I can promise you that if it checks out appropriate action will be swiftly taken.

That said, in the absence of legitimately verifiable evidence, it's difficult to give the claim that ghosts run rampant on SBR Forum any serious consideration. Just making the a priori declaration that "everyone knows it to be true" holds little water.

For the record: SBR's policy is not to permit single users to post under multiple names. If a user would like to change his username and/or completely retire a previous username, requests may be submitted to either Willie Bee or Bill Dozer.

Such requests will be considered individually and on a case-by-case basis.
