    Default OT: Children's Charities

Anyone donate? Which is the most deserving? Which actually gets the most donations to where they are intended? Thanks for your serious responses.

Here in Costa Rica you have 2 options (that I know are very well spent):

    - Obras del Espiritu Santo (http://obrasdelespiritusanto.org/)

    - Hogar Crea

First one picks up young kids from the street and gives them food and shelter

Second one picks up drug addicts and help 'em out to get out of this disease and puts 'em to work

Yes.....I don't know which is most deserving, but here in the Toronto area I make periodical contributions to Sick Kid's Hospital charities. I've been to the hospital, and it is truly awe inspiring the work that is done there.....

You can never go wrong with St. Jude's Children Hospital.

Or if you like the sports, check out the Victory Junction Gang. It is a very great organization.

I normally donate to local charities - MANNA Foodbank, if you have one, or shelters for woman and children. I had a friend who's child was diagnosed with cancer who had an exceptionally good experience with St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. They covered all her expenses - even to travel back and forth for treatments - and during such an extremely difficult time, it was a relief for her not to have to worry about money.

excellent ideas everyone, thanks and keep them coming. Not a huge Salvation Army fan. although they do great work, it seems that a disproportionate amount of donated funds end up in personal bank accounts (Libby Dole)...or was that the Red Cross?

I know most NASCAR sites have a link to the Victory Junction Gang. They have camps for disabled children, terminally ill children and the like.

And like Sporty said, St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis accepts all children regardless of if their parents can pay. They are one of the finest organizations around.

St. Jude's sounds good to me. Does anyone know of a charity that might help the children of servicemen and and women who have been killed in Iraq/Afghanistan? Might be able to find something out through Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Mr D.

All the charities listed by posters in this thread are worth donating to, you just have to decide which one touches your heart the most.
