Default Boxing Saturday: Oscar De La Hoya Vs Steve Forbes

Okay, I'm trying to learn some things about boxing. The good thing about it is that unlike tennis players cannot say "I cant play anymore" and then the bet is closed (no win-no lose).

Oscar De Lay Hoya - 1.06 (American: -1700)
    Steve Forbes - 12.00 (American: +1100)
    Odds taken from 5Dimes

Question is: Does Steve Forbes can beat Oscar or that's a way too hard? I don't know the players, so I'm just asking you who probably know better than me.

Also, odds of 12.00 (+1100) are good to place like $20 or $30 on this fight or better not? (or maybe better even to place $1k-$2k on Oscar because he can't lose?)

it means, if the bet loses, you'll lock yourself up in a box and you'll be a specaticle for everyone on the forum to be laughed at.

This will cap off two weeks of horrible fights on HBO, I am guessing. Calzage/hopkins was shit. This one doesn't look to be a different kind of horrible.

Can somebody tell me why Oscar is taking this fight???

What is his goal? I thought he retired. Please don't tell me money.

It's about money management. Everyone knows Steve is good at managing family money. Plus, his flat tax is an idea whose time has come. In addition, he is already as ugly as a dude can be--so Oscar can't really do any long term damage to his grill. This one is all about the politics.

Just a tuneup fight for Oscar before fighting Mayweather again in September.

No, Forbes can't win this fight, unless you think the smaller guy can earn a stoppage or win by DQ (extremely unlikely). Forbes could conceivably win virtually every round and he still wouldn't be given the decision, as the sport isn't going to jeopardize the Oscar/Floyd rematch, which is still the biggest money fight in boxing.

Forbes is nowhere near a natural 154-pounder, but he's a pretty slick boxer. I think Oscar will be content to get some rounds in and treat this as a glorified sparring match. Even if he goes for the stoppage, DLH will have a difficult time doing so against a capable fighter like Forbes, who possesses good defense and strong lateral movement.

De La Hoya by decision -146 is the play.

i think they are throwing Forbes a bone because he fought Hopkins nefew a few months ago and got robbed so bad they had to do something for the guy. I still can't figure out who the hell wants to see Delahoya vs Mayweather anyway. The first fight was a total bore and i don't see anything changing. Cotto and Mayweather is the fight everyone wants to see. Not this Delahoya mayweather garbage.

    Calzage/hopkins was shit.
Hopkin's fights are always that way. One right punch then clinch.

Anything can happen. I'm with ya, but I thought the same thing before I saw Gotti and Ward fight for the first time on HBO. It is, in my opinion, one of the best fights ever. And their next 2 are just as intense. Top 5 fights ever.

De La Hoya's a much bigger PPV draw than Cotto, or any other fighter for that matter. Oscar/Floyd is still the biggest money fight out there. That's why it's happening, even though I, similar to almost every real boxing fan, have little to no interest in seeing the fight.

BTW, Cotto/Margarito will be a much better action fight than a potential Cotto/Mayweather fight.

The backlash would be so great that I think Floyd will almost be forced to fight the Cotto/Marg winner next year.

    Exactly.

There's no way Oscar loses this one even if it's close, he even got a vote against Floyd in their first fight in what was clearly a unanimous decision win.

Think of what it'd do marketing wise if Oscar lost this fight, not going to happen.

Forbes fought Demetrius Hopkins (Bernard's nephew), not Bernard.

if your betting on oscar pound it now it will only get worse odds as we get closer to the fight.

This match is a joke the golden boy wins this in a landslide victory even if he likes dressing up in womens clothes.

    Ok thanks big difference!

    Apprieciate it.

When noone thinks the person has a chance that does scare me. I do remember Lewis getting knocked out taking one of his fights very lightly?

There's no way Oscar is going to lose a decision to this guy.

If he gets knocked out or gets cut up and has it called off, that's another story.

or the douglass-tyson fight. this is different, de la hoya is not a knockout fighter, so he will fight with defense.

I disagree i don't think people will buy this fight and i think it wont even get half of what it got the first time. I do agree tho Cotto and Margrito is the one i will be waiting for.
