Default If you bet soccer, explain this...

    Point Spread - ML

    Chelsea pk(-175) // +125
    Liverpool pk(+135) // +220

my question is why would you take the PS if its a pick? The PS being a PK is defeating the purpose of having the PS...Is this a book messup?

There are two kinds of soccer lines: "handicap" (with a spread), and 3-way.

If you play the handicap with a spread of 0, the lines are -175/+135 (this is a 40-cent line, and is terrible).

If you play the 3-way, you lose on a tie. There should be odds on the tie winning at somewhere close to +200. Again, this is a high juice book.

If you want to bet soccer, you really should take a look at Pinnacle.

Odds, it looks like the second column is missing the "Draw" option.....

(Ok, Justin beat me to it with a much better explanation lol)

yea I left out the draw option but I mean why would someone take the ML if they are getting better odds on the ML for the same exact situation?

If you bet Chelsea -175 on the handicap, a tie refunds your money. If you bet it at +125 on the 3-way line, you lost the wager on a tie (instead of getting a refund).

If you bet the non-draw option (In this case Chelsea at -175; Liverpool at +135) you lose on a tie regardless of which team you chose.

Even if the game must go to extra time (which will occur today if it is 1-1), you lose the bet based on 90 minutes of play.

Oh oh, I get it now...thanks man...if I was really scared about the tie I would just bet say Chelsea ml and the tie...arent you still getting better odds that way?

Sorry, I got my draw and non-draw columns discombobulated.....Odds, tell you what, just go with what Justin says lol

If you're reading my posts, I'm screwing you up more than anything.....

Incidentally, are you going to be wagering on this match today? There's actually a fairly long thread concerning the match about a third of the way down the main page.....

3rd thread this month on the subject.

If a bet looks to good to be true, it IS too good to be true. Don't bet unless you understand

It depends on what the draw odds are as well. Let's assume the draw is +220. (Actually the highest I see is +210). Assuming you would want to create a approximately a "push" situation on the draw you'd have to do this:

    1X2:
$62.50 to win $137.50 on the draw
$137.50 to win $171.88 on Chelsea

    This is compared to

    Spread:
$200 to win $114.29 on Chelsea pk -175

    And now the results:

    IF Chelsea wins:
    1x2: +$171.88 - $62.5 = +109.38
    Spread: +114.29

    If draw:
    1X2: $0
    Spread: $0

    If loss:
    1X2: -$200
    Spread: -$200

So, no, the pk -175 is better in this particular case.

I consider myself to be somewhat of a soccer capper since I played for the majority of my life since I was 3 and then played semi pro for about 3 years an ankle injury caused a quick stop to it all.

I choose the games correctly I only bet about 3 to 5 matches a week.

As a former player and bettor the draw line is were the books make their money at.

If you followed soccer last week nobody would have known that the 4 UEFA Champions game were going to result in a draw.

Soccer is also a sport were you can make so much money betting on a dog , that really isnt a dog.

Take for example 10 days ago Real Madrid VS Santander
Real Madrid being a former powerhouse needed a win and was at +105 picked that one.

Chelsea last week againt Liverpool was chelsea + 180 against Liverpool.

It was a really good dog since they are in the top 10 of the Uefa teams.

I lost that bet due to the draw line...

Most soccer bettors bet with their heart and passion for a team not to draw... its the most boring bet in the game ...but if people would bet that more often it would be a whole different game and I wonder if US books would even let people bet on them

I almost agree , it depends on what time of offense Chelsea is going to play.

They can use the system or i think its better if the coach just lets chelsea play that amazing , full of imagination game they are well known for.

If they use the system I will bet the draw , BUT if they come out freestyling I like the Over and Chelsea on the money line.

Draws are a good way to win in soccer. Most draws pay more than +200. When the game is a derby it is the most common outcome. A good way to win $100 is to pick 5 games that you think they will end up in a draw and bet $100 on each. If you hit 3 draws you won $100. If you hit 2 draws you lost $100, which is the same as if you bet one draw for $100 and lost it.

The main ingredient of success in picking soccer winners is to know how motivated teams are, weather conditions, pitch conditions, and most importanly the defensive schemes that teams employ. If you don't know the difference between 4-3-3, 4-4-2 and 3-5-2 then don't bet soccer.

another draw today. see if you bet both legs of the 4 semi-final games for draws, you'll be 3-1...with +200 odds, that means you'll be up 5 units.
