Well I can tell you that i've stayed there in all of the "posh" hotels and there isn't much great about them. You pay about 250-400 a night and you get a room and not much else.Considering you will be spending most of your time in vegas outside of your room it make it pointless to get an expensive room.
If I were you,I would try to get a hotel somewhere in the middle of the strip so you don't have to walk as far when you are going from one casino to another.
A good place to go would be something like monte carlo, paris, ballys. SOmewhere in that vacinity.
Not sure how much you are looking to spend but those hotels I mentioned will run you around 100 bucks a night.
If you are looking to spend even less and get something half decent, look for a hotel that is just off the strip. They are cheaper and sometimes just as good

Just do the $20 trick and one of the big hotels.

When your're checking in, put a folded up $20 bill in between your ID and your CC and ask, "are there any complimentary upgrades available today?".

It works abouit 80% of the time. And if they can't upgrade you, they usually give you your $20 back.

I'm flying out on Wednesday and I'll be doing the $20 trick @ Palms and Wynn

We stayed at the Stratosphere this year for the first weekend of March Madness. I was there two years ago and it was kind of dumpy...but it was really cheap this time around, so we booked it for 5 nights. We had absolutely NO intention of staying there other than to sleep. But to our surprise, they have renovated the casino, rooms and put in a REALLY nice circular bar at the entrance.

I don't think that the Stratosphere works with Expedia, so check their site directly. We found the room REALLY cheap.

    Forgot to mention....

    Do you play poker?

Call the Wynn, ask to be connected to the poker room. If you play for 6 hours a day, you can stay @ a 5 star hotel for $129 a night (Sun-Thur) or $199 a night Fri/Sat.

Most comfortable bed I've ever slept/****** in. Automated drapes, a flat screen (1 in the bathroom too) and turn down service.

I like to change it up every time I go.....Haven't found a farorite yet. This time I'm going to the MGM in 30 days. I agree with trying to stay around the middle of the strip. We use Expedia, book earlier for cheaper prices.

I play poker. But it depends on the game. I'm not one to go against sharps... I like to talk and be sociable.

Its a suprise vacation for a sorta in advance honeymoon. Want to go to vegas see some shows and get laid alot. So having a room with paper walls thats 2x2 doesn't seem to good to me. I want something middle tier etc... Nothing huge or really expensive but nothing on the just showed up and got put somewhere either.

I'm more into craps/bj over poker. just depends on the mood.

Yeah i'm looking to do a weekday excusion maybe a Thursday/monday thing who knows...just depends on the deal.

I have stayed in most of the main hotels on the strip so if you have any questions about a particular hotel just let me know
For location and price, I would recommend Monte Carlo

If you want a good buffet, check out the one at the Mirage. Not 100% what it was called but it was huge and had tons of selection (Sushi, italian, seafood, etc)

    Its called Cravings.

The Mirage has a kick ass pool but the regular rooms are just so-so.

If you want a nice room your choices are Venetian, Bellagio, Wynn, Palazzo, TheHotel @ Mandalay Bay (actually the rooms at Mandalay Bay are pretty nice, the bathrooms are big and awesome).

The regular rooms at MGM, Monte Carlo, Mirage, NY NY etc are just OK and are nothing special.

Lotta hot a** at the Palms and their rates during the week are very reasonable.

As A general rule I stay at the Orleans when in Vegas. Everything you could want is in that building. Fair rates, good comps and there is a shuttle that can take you to the strip for free.

I would stay downtown at the Horseshoe if you like craps, more craps games going on there than anywhere else, and its cheap.

If you want off the strip... Red Rock middle price with luxury rooms.

For the strip than stay at that palce next to Flamingo they have changed there name used to be Barbary Coast.

Any of these three are a good value

You won't find a nice room to get laid in @ the Horseshoe.

His Red Rock suggestion is a good one though.

purecarnage, this is a pretty good list. I'd recommend looking at The Hotel @ Mandalay Bay. It's off from the regular Mandalay Bay section of the hotel and is quite nice and very modern. Also worth noting for your purposes is the cabana rentals there by the pool. You can reserve one... Not sure you can at the Wynn, in fact pretty certain you cannot-- you can get put on a guest list but nothing is guaranteed, or at least that's how it used to be. At Mandalay, you can go ahead and rent a poolside cabana, complete with LCD TV, IPOD docking station, mini-bar, etc and get it reserved.

Guys if you really think going to vegas for the really good buffet... or a casino and staying in that hotel is good. You can drive to any casino. I will pay for any good meal, but I'm not staying at a hotel over a friggen buffet... I mean cmon its not the dollar store here...

Yeah, I think people failed to read your entire post, purecarnage. You're looking for something nice (as in, the room doesn't scare you into the casino and is actually comfortable, lush, cool to hang out in, etc). There's a cool vibe to The Hotel as opposed to the regular Mandalay. Flat Screens in your rooms, which are kinda like Boutique Hotel rooms in that they are not cheesy and are modern (kind of like a NYC studio apartment). I'd assume that you could get an upgrade fairly easily depending on how early you book your room and yeah, the beach cabanas are a nice touch.

Yup exactly. Who the **** picks there Vegas hotel by a buffet... trip to vegas 5k. trip to the buffet priceless... no thanks not me.
I don't mind spending the time in the casino the shows etc...but I want to come back to the room and feel comfortable not thats like at motel 6 or some other business travel hotel. I want nice shit and I'm not afraid to pay extra for it. I mean if the rooms 199 and I can get a nicer room for 300 a night I'm down. Anything higher than that I'm just like eh w/e. I figure May isn't peak vegas travel time either so it should be good.

Your point? I go to Vegas every year and never pay for rooms. I stayed for free at TI last year. If you actually gamble you get free stuff you know.

Yeah if you drop $4K every trip they send you free room deals bi-monthly.

I don't donate when I go to Vegas. I play poker and profit at places like the Wynn and Venetian. I don't get offers for free rooms because they don't see $ signs when they see my name.

I do get the poker rate though and that allows me to stay @ a 5-star hotel like the Wynn for $129 a night when many ppl are paying $400 a night for the same room.

You're obviously making things up. Are you related to POS69? I've been going to Vegas for over 20 years. There are ways to get what you want for free if you know what you're doing.

  35. #35

    Making what up?

Vegas gives you things for free when they know you'll dump $$$ in their casino.

The days of Vegas handing out free room to people who don't donate their wallets to them are long gone.

Fact: If you visit Vegas (or a particular Vegas hotel) 6 times a year, YES, they will comp you a room if you show a lot of table/slot time on your players card.

Fact: Players who frequent table (non-poker)/slot machines are losers over the long haul so therefore it's profitable for Vegas to offer them free rooms.
