Gas prices are going up every week with no sign of relief. How much higher can they go before Americans start rioting or they start rationing?

The dollar is crap, the oil prices are controlled by a cartel, and oil companies are making record profits... it is going to take rioting or rationing to get these prices down...

Maybe a bit over $4, but I can't imagine $5 or more. If so, I may buy a bike.

4.50 or so. Diesel around 5.75, glad I sold my F-250 awhile back.

It's about CAD$4.73 here for a gallon of regular. I know in Europe they paid a lot more for a long time. Enjoy your cheap gas prices, Americans. I always fill up when I'm south of the border.

People are already starting to flip out. It is around $3.65 here in Pennsylvania. I'm dropping $100 each week just to get to work and back.

I guess I'm in the minority, here. I don't think they are exceptionally high here. Compare them with Europe. Compare the price of a gallon of gas with a gallon of bottled water purchased in small containers. Compare it with the price of a gallon of some facy perfume. Compare it with cough syrup, etc. Oil has to be drilled, refined, transported, etc.
Gas in the mid 60's when a GTO or Chevy Impala was $3600. A VW was qbout $1800. 10X that and get today's prices for those same type vehicles, sometimes a bit less. Gas in the mid 60's was around 35 cents. 10X that and get today's $3.50 or so.
Many things have gone up more than 10X in that same period, think about it.

I seriously doubt you're going to see rationing. OPEC is actually pumping out more than their set quota, and I'll give you one guess why. The last thing they want to do at these prices is see consumers restricted on how much they can buy. I was predicting $3.50 a gallon by Memorial Day about a month ago, and that is already gone by (never thought I'd be paying that much per gallon here in Texas). Maybe we'll see $4.00-plus now before we get too deep into the summer, who the hell knows. But rationing? No effin' way.

it will eventually hit 5, but not in an election year., people in European countries must laugh at us for bitching about $3.00 and even $5.00 gas. Most European countries gas is $5 or more, thats why everyone has scooters and little cars.

Not legitimate are the analogies to prices in Europe.

Those countries are a lot smaller than the US. Many of our trucks are travelling 3500 miles or more to deliver goods.

Which is one reason why we have attained such heights of prosperity.

I voted OVER $10 a gallon before their is rioting IF at all...

This summer it will hit $4 a gallon in most areas and it's actually a little under priced as it is...

    Gasoline RBOB May 08 3.0150 3.0815 2.9836 3.0537 +0.0351 04/25/08

As you can see it's $3.05 on the futures market which is where the price is set for gas AND oil... The normal gap between the futures market and the pump is about .65 to .70 cents... It should be a little higher at the pump but I believe the samething will happen as last year... The gap will get wider... The price on the futures market will gradually go down while the pump price goes higher... Last year the highest gas got on the futures market was about $2.45 with pump prices peaking at near $3.50 here for a brief time... You'll see a dollar gap when it's $4 at pump which I predict will be late June or early July...

The over $10 a gallon won't be for at least 5 years (if at all) and the American pussies aren't going to do a damn thing about it either... They will simply adjust...

It's funny when we hear politicians go after the big oil companies about rising gas prices. When in fact it's not the oil companies fault

The TRUTH is, we could have gas for half the price tomorrow if the government, federal and state would stop taxing the sh1t out of a gallon of gas.

They are eliminating the middle class. In the future your either a serf or very wealthy.

Obama just the other day was attacking the oil companies. You want to do something a$$hole. Repeal the gas tax for 6 months.

Instead we had the brilliance of sending out a sh1tty little rebate check come May. That will do nothing for the economy. If they took the gas tax away corporate profits would soar.

Comparing European gas prices to ours is silly.
Although their prices are higher its mostly tax. For example
Brits pay $7 but 70% is gasoline tax. So basically $5 of $7 goes
to the their government to pay for social programs not
to the oil companies. Why else do u think OPEC isn't
    raking in record profits overseas?

Plus Europeans don't drive as much as us because their cities are
much more centralized meaning they don't have to commute 50 miles to work like a lot of us. Also their cars get 10mpg more than ours. And 50%
of their cars are diesel compared to only 5% here.

Comparing the price of bottled water to gas is stupidity at its finest. Which is why u only hear it from Repubicons.

Bush is to blame for record gas prices. His policies
such as buying up all the gas from private refineries and invading Iraq have
caused this mess. Just spent $3.99 for 87 octane.

    **** Bush.

    **** Bush.
With all due respect, it's not G dub's fault. See previous post about Euro gas prices. They get wacked a 70% tax on a gallon. Do the math on that if there was no tax or a REASONABLE level of tax.

Same sh1t here in the U.S. All these politicians are worried about economic conditions. Suspend the gas tax. Everyone from your local landscapper to UPS to the airline industry would pick up profits. People would have more money for discretionary spending - clothes, TV's, etc. The economy would be back on track in two fiscal quarters.....thats six months for the uneducated.

Dude we're currently only paying 47 cents a gal on tax. Getting rid of it
will not solve the high prices. Even without the tax we are paying more
during the oil embargo of the 70s!

How do u figure Bush isn't at fault? The spike in gas price
began soon after he bought up all the oil from private refineries
to stockpile the national oil reserve back in 2001.

Then invading Iraq the 2nd most oil producing country interrupted oil production which further caused oil prices to spike. Add to that how much trillions of debt has caused the US Dollar to drop in value which is important because OPEC uses USD as their currency which means they have to pay more to buy equipment due to the falling dollar.

The quicker we produce fuel efficient cars the better but Bush was too busy handing out $100,000 tax credit to those buying Hummers and Suburbans. And we all know how fuel eficient they are.

Hey stiffy... I know this is a little bit over your head but high gas prices effect a lot more then YOUR driving... Gas is energy which effects EVERYTHING... It costs more to ship food or other goods therefore even the pepsi you drink is going higher...

This is called "inflation" and gas SHOULD be MUCH MUCH higher... Oil went from $11 10 years ago when gas was .89 cents to almost $120 and which is almost 12 x's... Gas has only went up about 4 x's.... This is hardly G.W.'s fault...

    The uninformed think the following:

    >>> Gas and Oil prices are Bush's fault...

    >>> The U.S. economy is Bush's fault...

    >>> Gas prices only effect drivers...

    >>> The Oil companies are making a ton of money...

    GET A CLUE!!!

People.... YOU'LL PAY THE MONEY ....AND SHUT THE F*CK UP!!!!

I predict prices will hit $4.50 a gallon sometime this summer. Within the next four years I can see us paying around $7 per gallon.

Well, the first paragraph is correct. Just because you stop driving doesn't mean you're not affected by high gas prices. Beer manufacturers still need oil to manufacture and deliver their products and guess who will pick up the tab for higher fuel prices? YOU, the consumer.

Second paragraph is bordering on ignorance. Oil commodities have nothing to do with inflation. It has everything to do with supply and demand. The investors are betting that oil will be in short supply due to everything from wars, to terrorist attacks, etc.

If some hillbilly discovers the largest oil reserve in the world while racoon huntin, guess what happens? The oil prices will plummet due to the unexpected find. And what if auto manufacturers were to announce that they would be phasing out gasoline powered cars in favor of fuel cells (Honda has already introduced fuelcell in some cities)? That would crash the oil commodities market.

Plus, gas prices when adjusted for inflation would still be around $1.50 not $3.99 as I paid recently.

If anyone believes that Bush's policies have not adversely affected our economy, then that person is a complete moron. Remember 9-11? It almost completely brought our economy to a standstill and was responsible for large layoffs of workers in the service sector. It could have been prevented had Bush heeded warnings from his anti-terrorism expert.

His hoarding of gas by buying up all the oil from private refineries caused the first sharp spike in gas prices. His invasion of Iraq not only cost us trillions in debt but caused oil prices to soar in to the stratosphere.

Economy is cyclical but no one has been able to explain how recession skipped Clinton's 8 years in office but hit twice during Bush's. Kinda refutes the claim that policies of presidents have no bearing on our economy, now does it?

Bush is certainly the worst president in our history. His approval rating is 18-19%, which is the lowest in history, even worse than when Dick Nixon resigned in shame over Watergate. Now that's embarrassing.

It looks like the hyperinflationary depression is starting to happen. Soon everyone will realize that the price of energy is making all goods rise in price.

I think most of the economies problems come from the Fed, Mr. Bernacky (or something like that) and the treasury secretary Mr. Paulson. Although I can't stand Bush and his cronies, the economy is something that I will not pin on him but he hasn't helped the economy either.
