Whether it be dealing from the bottom of the deck or playing in collusion with a buddy of yours?
I'm sure some people here have done this at one time or another.
Where you ever caught? What were the consequences?

No but I played with guys that cheated years ago. Took awhile to catch on to what they were doing and when I confronted them of course they denied it. After the confrontation they quit winning for some odd reason.

The only game I've cheated at, that I can easily recall, would be playing monopoly. Don't trust me around the bank. Cheating cards for money is low class and scummy.
One of the guys had a big silver card marker that he always had placed right under the deck when dealing. The reflection
was enough to tell at least face cards or aces. When playing high low you had to declare after last bet if you were going for high or low and if you went both ways you had to win both ways or you lose period. Dumbass rule but was their house rule. Well you declared with one chip for low and 2 chips for high and no chips were both ways. So guys grab chips and put them under table to hide in hand to declare. Two guys would always take forever and never once went same way assuring them half the pot always.

Not me, not worth the hassle and low rate of return.

Online is different. Once you get to know some of the players you play with every day, get them on AIM etc, sometimes they have a way of telling you their cards like it's no big deal. I went with it because it's the internet but I didn't play in such a way that was obvious, or ever "split the money" etc. I just went about my hands and occasionally let them know when to fold. I lied about it a few times in heads up pots though.
All this talk of online collusion doesn't speak well to the fairness of online poker.
Games have always been big in my family, so I have grown up without a thought of cheating.
I have in the past seen another players cards at a live game. I warn them if I see it, but if a player flashes them in an obvious manner, I will use that information against them.

I think is pretty commonly accepted that when you play online that you're going to get colluded against at some point... It all comes down to if you're making money or not and if you aren't, just like any other gambling venture, you shouldn't be playing... I don't think (actually I know) that isn't so bad that if you are half decent you can make money...
The one good thing about playing online is that the house has access to all the hole cards... if you see anything suspiciuos you should obviously report it because it shouldn't be to hard for the site to detect things like this since they can look at all the hole cards... theorically it should be easier to detect then if people were playing live...
I was playing a sit and go one time and when it got down to three players the other two players kept making wierd raises that would keep their chipstacks equal... I was supicious and sharkscoped them and they played together in the every tourney I was able to look at... Needless to say I reported them and the site (fulltilt) gave me 1st place money... (I finished third)... On the one hand it was nice to get the money but still it makes you supsicious of them when they say they have software to detech this kind of thing and I was able to see what they were doing without having access to all the shit that the site has access too...
Anyhow, IMO, in utimately comes down to if you are making money or not... If you are keep playing if not I would find something better to do with your time (and money)...

The problem is there's absolutely no way to enforce a "one person per hand" policy online. Sites can't stop players from communicating on the phone, on AIM, at each others house etc. All they can do is try to detect suspicious betting activity, monitor for software exploits etc, I can tell you they have pretty advanced technology in place and sites like Poker Stars do bust colluders routinely.
I kind of had. In vegas once at 5/10 NL, some guy who had about 8200 in chips was not protecting cards. Everytime I knew what he had. if he had a PP and the flop hit and he bet, and I knew i had 2 overs, I call. ECT. everyone was like I cant belive u called this hand or that hand. It was easy money

I actually saw a regular give an all in motion while lipping all in across the table to another regular when he was playing a hand against a crazy... I went and told the room manager and he came back like thirty minutes later and told me there wasn't anything they could do because they didn't have a camera on the table at the time... I was pissed and left but I wish I would have just called them out in front of the whole table...
If people know what they are doing live you probably have zero chance of catching them unless they are just completely obvious...

The dealers is suppose to watch any chips in front of empty seats but it is obviously hard for them to do with other shit always going on... You should also count your stack before you take a break and, at most places, you can take any bills you have on the table with you are they are harder for the dealer to keep an eye on... Some places have clear boxes they can stick over the chips but I only seen them used occasionally after someone has been gone for an especially long time...
