A guy made a good point on Mike & The Mad Dog today..
Joba SHOULD start.. What's the sense having him in the bullpen when you're down 6-0..?? What's his value to the organization?
If the kid is so talented, and he definitely is, it's a waste only utilizing him to secure a small lead seeing as how our starting pitcher rotation is NOT taking us to the playoffs unless we outscore our opponents by 6 runs a game..
What's the point of having him pitch an inning or two with the lead, when our starting pitchers aside from Wong and Pettitte are going to get knocked out of the game more often than not..??
We need another starter, if he is as great as I think he is, he's more valuable helping us maintain a lead than he is saving one late in game. We already have our closer, let the bullpen step up for relief and let Joba start. Joba, Wong, Pettite, and hope our young starters can deliver. Mussina is a lost cause... Tired of his ass.
Our offense will be there, but it is NOT good enough to bail our starters out all year... Our starters and even most of our bullpen sucks... Need all the quality starters we can get.
Do you Yankee fans really want the likes of Hawkins and/or Bruney replacing Joba in the 8th inning role? As the pen is presently constituted, a Yanks lead through 7 and the game's basically over.
Moving Joba this season would be a huge mistake (as such, I hope it happens). They would have to send him down to the minors for a few weeks, at which time NYY would have a hole in both the back of the pen and the rotation.
It's pretty simple for the Yankees - if they continue to get nothing from Hughes and Kennedy, they aren't going anywhere whether Joba's in the pen or the rotation.

Agree, but it would be nice to at least have the confidence that a guy besides Wong or Pettite can go out there and put the Yankees in a position to win, maybe only giving up a couple runs...
I don't have that confidence for Mussina, Hughes, or Kennedy... And as far as the bullpen is concerned, I don't have much confidence there either. I think if they intend to use Joba as a starter, they should at least make that decision sooner rather than later.
