Default Canada Rocks The World !!!!!!!!!!

. . . and captures the Gold in men's Curling!

I don't know if anyone outside Canada can understand how big a deal it is around here.

It's a particularly big deal in the small (population-wise) province of Newfoundland where this team started their journey. Schools were closed so the kids could watch and the guys will be heroes for decades.

Curling is similar to hockey in Canada. The scale is smaller and it is maybe more cultish and less mainstream - but it has some hardcore fanatics. We have dominated the world for a good 40 years and that's the way we like it. For me, it is one of very few sports events I will follow with no wagering interest.

I know many people won't care and I am very familiar with forum types who don't understand the game making fun of it. That's okay. I just wanted to stand up and say:

    Don't you think you're over-compensating for your hockey team a little, **?

Speaking for myself, I like it because I am a thinking man and it is a thinking man's game.

It is a sport of extremely complex strategy. And then on top of being a keen strategist, to be the best (like us - ), you need pinpoint execution and finesse - but also power - also teamwork. It is a fascinating, cerebral game.

I'm not going to get into a big thing about this. Once you know the game, you'd know it would make a lot more sense to ask how people can watch golf. Don't get me wrong, I myself enjoy a bit of golf (Sunday of the Majors anyway). But there is so much more to a game of curling.
