Its too keep their image looking like "they are really into everything" with their team. They know along with everyone else they will lose but it makes them look more dedicated I guess.

The only reason why NO was behind early was because CP3 was being to unselfish. Dallas will not have any answer for him. When Dallas beat them on the final game of the season, Chris Paul was doing whatever he wanted to. The hornets tank that last game. Chris paul was having his way in that one too before being taken out in the 4 quarter for a long time.
