Ask the guy who drafted the "schedule". Since he must be God, I'd say he has a good idea.

This is not true... The Mayan Calander does not say "the world is coming to an end" it's just how people view it... It's like when you tell people that oil, gas, or metals are going higher they view it as "doom and gloom" when in fact the sun will still rise...

The deal with the calander is that at that time it will signify a new era and the "end" of an old one... I believe something will happen to bring in a new era... It won't be anything like the world ending or anything MAJOR in that sense...

"Four years, nine months and three weeks may be about all the time we have left on Earth. Why? Dec. 21, 2012, marks the end of a 5,000-year cycle by the Maya Long Count calendar"

I'm not sure the Mayans meant that the world would end. Some think that some sort of historical transformation is going to take place. Human beings moving up to the next plane, perhaps. The Mayans believed that this date marked the transition from the current Creation world into the next. There are several very important cycles that all come full circle in 2012. The 26,000 year cycle, the 225 million Galactic Year cycle. In this year also there is an alignment of our solar system with the Galactic center. There is a photon band that lies directly in the Galactic center. Which the earth (and us) will then be bathed in.

Something interesting that is happening to human beings. The earth's core vibrated at a frequency of 7.8 cycles per second for as long as it has been measured. Human beings also vibrated at this frequency. However, the earth's core's vibration is increasing. This increase began in 1987. The human being vibration frequency is also increasing.

The frequency at which the human being vibrates at seems to have something to do with happiness. Think about people you know that you would describe as "vibrant". Full of energy, high metabolism. Then think of people you know who are cynical and pessimistic. No energy, low metabolism.

Some think that human beings will go through some sort of spiritual transformation in 2012.

I think something of historical import is going to happen. I have no idea what.

The end of the 13th b'ak'tun is conjectured to have been of great significance to the Maya, but does not necessarily mark the end of the world according to their beliefs, but rather a new beginning or time of re-birth.

According to the Popol Vuh, a book compiling details of creation accounts known to the Quiché Maya of the colonial-era highlands, we are living in the fifth world. The Popol Vuh describes the first four creations that the gods failed in making and the creation of the successful fifth world where men were placed.

The last creation ended on a long count of 12.19.19.17.19. Another 12.19.19.17.19 will occur on December 21, 2012, and it has been discussed in many New Age articles and books that this will be the end of this creation, the next pole shift or something else entirely.

What's so unique about the Mayan calendar, among other things, is the conspicuous presence of an end date: December 21, 2012. Why the calendar ends continues to confound scholars. Indeed, it does stand to reason that perhaps a "literal" end to the calendar is meant to be taken literally.

The Arctic Ice could melt pretty fast 4 years from now, so the end is not from the realm of possibility. Or better yet, an Alien invasion from outer space.
