Website creation help
Anyone know anything about this stuff? Ive got Adobe Dreamweaver and I created just a temporary thing to put up on the site. I went to my FTP or whatever and transfered the html file but when I try to go to the site, it says site not found. Up until 20 minutes ago when I transfered the html file, everything seemed fine. I had a site coming soon thing when trying to view the site.
Im an idiot and do not know much about computers. I definetly do not know anything about making websites. I would probably be better off if I just shot myself. Im frustrated with this thing and any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

PS, here is the error I get when trying to view the site.

It should be uploaded to whatever his site's root folder is. Also, try "index.htm" if .html doesn't work.

It's easy nig. Just first make sure you've entered all the info correctly. After you synchronize Dreamweaver with your hosting server addy, it's a piece of cake, well onto the template/layouts etc. Somebody is probably willing to help for free.

Do you have your own domain name, or did you build the site at some sort of free server like www.freewebs.com, etc?

If your website is www.keller.com,
try www.keller.com/index.html and www.keller.com/index.htm
And like someone else said, when you first log in to your site via FTP, it may show you a bunch of folders, one of which is "public_html" or maybe "www". In *those* folders is where you should be putting your index.html file. How bout a screenshot of your ftp screen?

Yeah good idea Math, screenshot the FTP screen through godaddy where it shows the .html folders or whatever, then somebody can easily help you enter the data in through Dreamweaver.

Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

Seems to work fine for me. You probably just need to wait for your DNS info to propagate.
You should refer to whatever documentation they sent you as there's probably a way you can access your site by IP.

there should be a place where you can put regular text and a place where you can put in html code. i think you have to put the code from youtube into the html code section...

Kellen, i figured out the video prob.. see my private message. The video link that youtube uses isn't the actual link to the video source - which is why you would get a box but no video.

When I was doing this on a regular basis I would normally charge $100/day for easy sites (which usually can really be done in a matter of 2-4 hours) and more for advanced sites (which would factor in the cost of needing to analyze code that is actually complicated). If you are just looking to build a very simple site you are better off keeping your $150 and just building it yourself. On the other hand, if you want to do live feeds and other advanced technologies then you definitely want to get a pro. If you want to get the site running functionally on your cell phone too you will also need to use xslt or some other code that is compatible with wireless technologies.
I excelled at the ground level things as well as the basic to mid-level things with actual programming languages but ended up wanting to bang my head off a wall when I couldn't figure out why my administrative query wasn't working. The big headache with programming is you could be sitting there for hours trying to figure out something when your problem could be that you didn't put a ";" at the end of your C++ line or you typed instead of for perl. Then when you reach a really high level of coding that you actually need to solve without a trusty example to guide you there are times where you will want to rip your eyes out because no matter how much what you are typing makes sense to you it just doesn't work.
