Quality of posters here at SBR
We are starting to see alot more quanity over quality posts.
Not good for SBR, I heard this is driving Dozer up a wall.
What can we do to fix this

Dozer or anyone else doesn't give a hoot who posts here or what they post, so long as people post here.

As long as folks have a place to discuss what the forum is geared toward, everything should even out. There is some good comedy in here from great new posters. There is also some interesting capping questions. More posting and new posters is great for everyone as long as admins give an easy way to sort through it all. That is what we are aiming to do.

Great mix here of gambling and non gambling, that is why this forum is blowing away competition. It is a new breed of posters so SBR has adjusted. These guys like weights, beer and pussy and of course gambling.

SBR has the hot demographics.
That's what it's all about. It's why so many sophomoric comedy shows are on primetime tv. And why so much teenage and early 20s type "grab-ass" is here.
Quality is irrelevant. Opera and Shakespeare are on PBS or some obscure cable channel. The beer and car companies pay for the demos.

The shows for the older demos can be profitable for the networks also, inasmuch as prescription drugs enjoy a huge market in America - which has the Philosophy of the Savior Pill down pat.
Pharmaceutical Spanish Fly (dangerous, in another five years they'll find it causes cancer), prostate remedies, blood pressue panaceas . . . we are an ailing nation. And the same folks who used to pay nice greenbacks for their pot, speed, lsd, etc are now paying for for the cures for their ailments.
But the real buying demos are the juvenile categories.

I definitely think SBR is the best sports forum I have ever been on. While it is true that the quantity of posts not related to sports has increased we need to allow for variety in order to maintain popularity.
At this point we can say we have a handful of different posters on SBR and they all have different needs that the forum must satisfy in order to maintain the membership of those posters. I would break the 3 main categories down as follows:
1. Diehard gamblers: These members are considered the "core" members of the forum as the primary goal of the forum is to service these members either through use of discussion, odd/line comparison, and/or sports contests. These guys are always posting about sports and while not always on the money with picks always have a good handle on what they are talking about.
2. Non-betting diehards and/or learners: These members may not actually be betting but still value this site in a sports related manner. They may partake in some free contests and may also try to learn some useful knowledge from the diehards. They may also specialize in a specific sport and therefore may do the majority of their posts during a particular sports season. I consider myself in this category because I match alot of the characteristics for this type of member.
3. Non-sports/chatroom members: These members may have little to know interest or knowledge about sports or may just not be interested at all in the gambling aspect of sports. While they don't bring sports to the table, however, they do bring interesting topics that are outside of sports to the table (could range from politics, to videos, to busting on people).
Then you have a few posters here and there who are completely useless and a drain on the site. However, the cost of removing them (in terms of site popularity) isn't worth it unless they are doing something really wrong.
With all of this being said. I think we are doing great with the types of posters we have and there is no reason to eliminate a member classification when that classification is helping the overall welfare of SBR. At the same time, I do recommend further distinction between the sports and non-sports aspects of SBR to ensure that we are both allowing general member growth and at the same time ensuring our core members are being given the best possible services that can be offered.

Many old timers don't come here anymore. The reason is pretty obvious. This place had something unique. Now it's just another forum, with people posting every crappy thought that enters their minds. WTF does that have to do with sports betting?
BTP contest is a good illustration. Used to be $500 a week for the winner with about 200 people competing. Now it's $200 for the weekly winner, with about 500 contestants. Similar with the monthly baseball contest. It's still free money, so no complaints, but the place has definitely taken a downturn. (I haven't followed the baseball contest, but I would be surprised if last year's frequent winner -RickySteve- had actually taken the time to enter his picks this season).
Kids and immaturity have taken over. You cannot expect serious gamblers to spend much time here anymore. SBR decided to take a loose approach towards moderating, and now it's too late. And we're left with what could have been. Oh well..
SBR Odds is exceptionally good! So is SBR's help is disputes. How this forum fits in with that standard is beyond me. Just calling it as I see it.

Solid post from a solid top notch poster.. It's a trip how SBR went from one of the more sophisticated forums to one of the least sophisticated in such a short period of time.
SBR just changed personalites, a lot of the new people are cool. Just wish some of the old cats would comeback and show their faces around here more and didn't let the new style push them away completely.

U should post a top 25 in terms of posters who put up picks. U know their reliability in picks, their + units from their respected sport, their overall post about sports etc and there's a lot of popular people here who shouldn't be on that list cause they're just bullshitters. But a top 25 is a good idea.

Im just saying u dont have to even keep track. Just get the most qualified person to do it thats here daily and knows who puts up winners/ good post about sports etc. Just top ranked 25 like college hoops. It could change weekly.

I honestly think that would be too hard to track j$....especially given the amount of posters who post picks. Too many picks to wade through to find out.

I can name some posters who are solid in hoops and baseball but cannot keep track of what each on does daily if they don't have a record...it would be a pain to check everyone to see if they are solid day in and day out.

As long as SBR comes out with cutting edge things that are fun and useful the forum will do great. BeatThePrick and SBRLines are good examples.

I agree that the forum needs to be moderated a bit more tightly. If this is done I think both the old timers and the newbies can be satisfied.
I think SBR is the best sports forum I have ever posted on and I don't think it has even come close to hitting it's peak.
