Funny, I was just about to say something along those lines. Donjuan is one of the "I told you..." type guys. Only thing is, he never said a word and if he did it was just a cryptic "careful with this" or "beware this..." type of comment.

If you can't understand why a serious +EV player would not want to share their plays on a public forum, then you are probably not a +EV player.

If a serious +ev player could sway an entire forum (unlikely) which in turn would skew the Vegas lines (unlikely), then he would be presenting himself with a whole new set of +ev bets, no? If he can skew lines a couple points, it would be to his considerable advantage to post plays to get a base following, then when/if the lines begin to shift because of his following, start posting the worst -ev bets as his +ev bets to skew the line in his favor and pounce on them at even greater ev.

That said, there's a tremendous difference between a disciplined, serious +ev player who actually knows how to find his edge, than say a somewhat educated theorist who spews nonsense on a message board but never posts a play. Really, what's the point of being on a sports gambling message board and not posting picks, all the while racking up nearly 1,000 posts in the process and just spewing general garbage.

You think I waste more than 2 minutes capping a game??? Listen, I look at the line, see where there has been enough movement for me to make a play. For example, Memphis opens up PK I play UCLA +2.5...that is the extant of my capping of that game. UNC opens -2....I take Kansas +4. That's all I am doing. nothing more than that.

You honestly think I waste time and look at FG percentages and offensive rebounding statistics or bench rotations. The linesmakers have already done all that stuff for me and come up with a fair line. There lines are pretty accurate. If I can get an additional point or two I'll play it regardless of how bad a team is.

Handicapping is a pretty big waste of time.

Personally, I doubt Durito spends a 100 hours "capping games." I think he is doing more data analysis stuff and trying to look for profitable angles based on quantitative considerations.

good point. There are way too many idiots on gaming forums for him or other number guys to have a serious audience.

More or less, most guys just bet with their gut or what they just saw on television. Some days are great, other days are bad. In the end, those guys will go 50/50 long term. Maybe a few win, but not much more than that.

I come here for:

1) To keep abreast of happenings in the industry -- specifically regarding specific books. SBR is the best place for that.

2) To learn. Ganch, Justin, etc are great sources of information.

3) Occasionally to chat with other gamblers about any variety of topics.

I assume Don Juan does the same. The fact of the matter is there lots of idiots on the internet. They are mostly best ignored, but sometimes i can be an ass.

I post out of my mom's basement and commute 1000 miles to school every day by way of teleport. I have never seen the sun and don't plan to. On Saturday nights I don't go out with "friends"; I stay in and stare at rows of binary.
