    Most tracks have a 20% Vig that's right 20 ****IN PERCENT. You are competing against other players that are 10x more knowledgeable and more intelligent than you were playing against even just 20 years ago as there are now local casinos within 100 miles of every1 in the country ready to suck in all the bet their favorite color/number players money into the slots and gives them free rooms/comps etc. where the track gives them a swift kick in the nuts when they're done losin and says you dumb fuk did u really think u could beat guys who study racing forms all day then make their 20 dollar bet and then we take out 4 out of the 20 and shove it in our pocket. IF SO YOU ARE A FUTURE BARRELLED IN DEGENERATE! But there are races that you have better odds at b/c they attract more idiot better and have bigger purses in other words the worlds biggest races (Triple Crown, Breeders, etc.) offer the only hope of ever winning at horseracing and even so it would be a miracle.

    Us come on lets get a bit real here. the track takout is a killer...even with the most hard work you can imagine this is a losing mans game long term. very few can even break even...with some offshore books giving a 5-7% rebates we can scrape out some funds but this is hardly a great gig! it is a thinking mans game and hard work helps but most should stay far away from gambling in horse! now who do you like in the next race!

    I agree with the take is high. However it's a game of major discipline! It's the challenge involved. But to call people who wager on horses degenerates is crazy & unwarranted! That would be like saying everyone who bets baseball or football are degenerates!

    The only way for the higher takeout argument to be valid is to assume EVERY wager is based on absolutely true odds, which is absurd. Sports/race bettors who succeed mostly bet when they believe they have an advantage. Based on the arguments of some, they would not bet on a horse they believe had a true chance of winning at 3-1, but was going off at 10-1. After all the takeout is so high, you can't beat it, right? Sorry, but a horse you believe is a fair value at 3-1 is a great bet if you can get 10-1, regardless the takeout.

    My favorite horse running at the moment is on the New York circuit, his name is Artytheonemanparty.

    He's only won $23K so far, but with a name like that, you know he's going places.

    With track takes varying from around 16% straight (Calif) to 25% in other venues (and higher on exotics) it is not possible to come out ahead on the horses . . .

    UNLESS ---- you are an insider. Deep inside. Once, due to circumstance I won't go into here, I had an inside track (deep inside) to the No. California circuit.

    If I had bet serious money on this guy's very quiet suggestions as to whom "some guys" were betting on, I would have done very very well. Just didn't take it seriously.

    A pony girl I knew at Hollywood Park/Santa Anita told me that jockeys carrying "joints" (buzzers) even at those major plants were not that unusual. At morning workouts the joints are all over the infield. They are also referred to around the track as "machines."

    "Some horses," said my female friend, "are known as 'machine horses.' They just won't run well in the morning without a machine."

    Sort of like coffee with humans. And in the actual races at the major SoCal plants, she said, 6 to 12 races a week had rider with joints. At least.

    You can have entertainment betting beer money on the beetles. But basically, as the Brits say, it's a mug's game.

    Are you mentally ill, do you really think a 3-1 horse is going to go off at 10-1, this is retarded logic and shows that you either have never bet on horses, hit a pick6 for 100k similar to a lottery winner (which is only way to win at horses), or you are barrelled in and trying to make yourself feel like you were unlucky on the horses. The truth is many years ago there were idiots who bet considerable amounts on horses just with colors/numbers/jockeys/a certain aesthetic appeal and they filled the pools up with their junk picks and a 3-1 horse might've gone off at 5 or 6-1 just b/c of this free money being placed on worthless nags, but now those idiots are jacking off a one armed bandit at their local casino and all that's left is a bunch of pale white degenerates watchin the race in a 2 dollar simulcast both on a 12 in screen, analyzing their racing forms and then placing their microbets that are essentially a donation to racing on normal days. THE ONLY WAY TO WIN AT RACING IS TO HAVE IDIOTS PUMP UP THE POOLS WITH SHIT BETS, THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN ANYMORE EXCEPT AT THE BIGGEST RACES IN THE WORLD TRUST ME OR DON'T JUST GO GET BARRELLED IN I DON'T CARE, HORSE RACING IS THE WORST POSSIBLE SPORT IN THE WORLD TO GAMBLE ON AT THIS POINT. HORSE PLAYERS = SLOT PLAYERS JUST WITHOUT THE CHANCE TO HIT A JACKPOT. IF YOU BET THE HORSES BET 2 DOLLARS A RACE TO SHOW AND ENJOY THE ENTERTAINMENT AT THE END OF THE DAY WITH ALL THE DELAYS YOULL PROLLY HAVE SPENT ABOUT AS MUCH AS YOU WOULD AT THE MOVIES

    Well, I've never had success betting horses. But there is a poster at another forum that has a pretty decent system that has been profitable. Basically, he takes 2 overlay horses in certain races, and wheels them up in down in exactas. You would need a large bankroll to do this, but he has been doing pretty good with it. I've seen some of his results, many of his exactas hit $300 or more in payouts.

    What I love about betting sports is that the line never moves. What I hate about the horses is the odds are always moving. You get a horse at 3-1 then goes of at 2-1 or worse. You certainly cannot beat the horse game betting straight W,P,S, but if you can find overlays and take them in exactas, tris, etc... I think it can be beat. The key is finding the value.
